OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

On the Bulldogs forum, there is a complete dickhead, who hates me & because I have posted that I don't want Haas here, he thinks I am lying.

I have posted that I can screenshot my post Haas posts, including the last contract circus.
Yea went over to read some of that - dont know why you bother with those dick heads.

I dont really have any issues with Payne leaving.

He was with us for like 8-9yr... that's a huge return on investment for the broncos.

It's up to the club to use the cap space wisely now.

We basically got the prime years of his career... although one thing I'd say is that last year his tackle breaking and offloading exploded compared to the past. That will be a big loss.

I would say that broncos never really utilised Payne as much as they could either.

As much as prop shouldnt be a try scoring threat someone like Payne is a threat close to the line, and I don't think we've ever really utilised him well enough as that threat.

It's funny Souths fans thinking they've just stolen the keys to castle and they are nailed on to win the comp now.

They are going to need a halfback, desperately. We lived a while where we had Haas and Milford and no halfback, it was not a good time. Payne Haas is not capable of single handedly winning games of footy. Their next A1 signing has to be a mainstay halfback, it has to be. If it's not or they can't afford one, they've ****ed up.

Yeah that's the point, it is about get-out clauses. We wouldn't do it and the Souths deal means he has essentially signed a one year deal with the security of 3 years if it all goes to shit.
Sooo, what's the difference between a 1 year extension, and a 3 year deal with a get out clause each year? 🥴

Yep and we aren't a desperate club anymore, Souths are. I get it, we were in this spot not so long ago, desperate to get anyone to sign/stay with us and being collectively over the moon when we picked up plodders the likes of Croft, Lodge, TPJ, etc. We also overpaid average blokes a lot (Glenn) and guys already on a steep decline (Boyd) long term big money offers.

South have had to upgrade Gray, re-signed a steeply declining Walker and constantly try to appease a lazy dude in Mitchell because they are desperate to have and retain big names. They've overspent on Fifita and now have thrown the kitchen sink at Haas.

Haas is an amazing pick up but given he is a notoriously professional trainer, is he even going to gel with the lazy blokes in Mitchell, Wighton and Fifita?

I can't wait to see how it all plays out, particularly given their coach has looked well past it for some time now. Do they all have one last dance in them? Can they have even one season of promise before it goes to pot?

Time will tell but whatever the case, it will be fascinating to watch when it all inevitably implodes on itself once Haas leaves for whatever the next best money making opportunity comes around 6-12 months into this highly touted contract.
Overspent on Fifita? News travels slow in Brisbane. He is on peanuts, because the tits couldn't wait to move him on.

I'm struggling to think of a worse spine. Even the Bears have a better spine with Meaney, Wishart, and Sexton imo. They can put Latrell there to make it look better on paper, but he can't physically cope with a high work rate position.
Sour grapes in here muddying the logic a bit. You can't think of a worse spine? Jye Gray led the Dally M before making way for Latrell. B Smith is an international hooker and Garlick was number one backup to the best hooker in the game. The biggest question marks are 5/8 and halfback. Ward, Humphreys, Humphries, and Glover all very good prospects, but unproven sure.

Haas has left for legitimate reasons. If it was about money he'd have started a bidding war among Sydney clubs. Post football at the Broncos he could also likely earn more money than at Souths. The idea he left because of clauses is ridiculous. Brisbane were willing to do a 1 year deal. He doesn't need the safety of a 3 year deal. Even if he did his ACL next year, he'd still attract top value in the market. You can speculate on what the clauses mean, but they aren't the reason he left the Broncos. We will never know how he feels about Madge. All we can say is that he didn't enjoy playing under Madge enough that he wanted to stay. Again he's entitled to play under another coach he's close to. The media is desperate to uncover some kind of hidden motive or secret plot. Maybe there is one, but there doesn't need to be one to explain what's happened.
I can't understand why this life after football thing is missed on so many. Mike Canon Brooks is a self made billionaire and Rusty is a Hollywood actor. You reckon they don't have connections?

5/8 and halfback are half of your spine 😂 the most critical parts of it too. Don't mention Garlick like anyone is expecting him to be anything other than a depth signing 😂

So if we believe Haas & his manager, it was always Wayne Bennett.

Yet he came back from Origin Camp saying things have to change.

Wasn't he really expecting the Broncos to sack Kev & that was going to be his excuse for leaving. Saying I can't see Kev giving me a premiership.

But we sign MM & go on to win the GF. (which would have been unexpected)

I believe his leaving was planned way before we won the GF.

Probably does just want a change and get around a bigger Muslim community in Sydney. He got his premiership with us and he felt like he got the job done.

Gray is average despite the random glazing he gets in the NSW media. The bloke is quick and has guts, but he's the size of a garden gnome and isn't a great ball player

Wasn't Will Kennedy leading the Dally Ms btw?

Garlick is absolutely a back up, and will likely give Smith a stint on the phone. To say we don't have options at halfback are little out of touch. Souths signed the best halves prospect in NSW cup because he couldn't get a run behind Flannos son. Humphreys has been very solid, and I suspect you all know nothing about Ashton Ward. I know it sucks to think about, but Wayne might have someone pretty decent in mind. It's not like people don't want to play for him...
