POST GAME [PREMIERS, 2025] Broncos vs Storm

One thing I've noticed in this, and it's hard to be sure as you never know how much was cut. Walsh is definitely the talker of our team if that wasn't already clear. Then probably Hunt.

Nobody else is saying much, and there's even some snickers about how much Walsh is talking among the boys lol. Like proper teacher's pet stuff. Kinda funny.

Me the while time watching the players reactions:

Anyone else noticed the increasing lack of credit we seem to be getting for winning it last year? The narrative appears to be that we were just lucky, Walsh hit form at the right time, etc. Yet no one seems to acknowledge that we were without our starting halves from rd21 until the prelim, and yet didnt lose a game. They also don’t mention losing them again during the GF, yet they mention Melbourne losing ****ing Howarth! They have talked up Penrith all off-season like they were the premiers. Where’s our ****ing respect?

All they seem to be talking about with us is how tough and intense Madge is

Caryannis even said that some like that can't have a long career at a club, because it burns the players out and puts them off side.

Although they always forget to mention that the most intense coach ever, Bellamy, has been at the one club for 24 years now.

I've been of the same opinion. The Storm are able to sustain it because they have a high player turnover, and it's only a core of players who are able to maintain that level for their career that remain. With the player turnover, they are able to recruit budget replacements easily enough due to their prolonged success.

I very much doubt preseasons are all that different at most clubs, it’s just become some tired narrative that’s stuck to Madge since souths and he can’t shake it, despite even winning the ****ing thing. It’s also ridiculous to think he hasn’t changed at all since souths, with experience comes change.

I think the whole Madge and intensity thing has a lot to do with the meetings and the time they take more than the physical stuff.
Some people have the persona to win a group over and some just become a noise you want to switch off.
They can be saying the exact same thing but it depends on the person.

A big thing from this was how much Teo was mentioned for his talk on the field.
Luke Leary was talking on SEN about the changes to trainers on the field
, how that time has been limited this year and how much halves were relying on them to get messages quickly to fullbacks and wingers and how they can push tired players to get into position.
This could prove the biggest change in the NRL this season.

It's not about physical flogging. Some coaches tire you out with their intensity and micromanaging. Henjak was one.

Think Ricky although he has mellowed. Woolf although again he seems to have learned.

Brian Smith never learned to leave it alone and micromanaged every player to within an inch of their life and every aspect of their life.

That's why the message and love runs out after a couple of years.

Bellamy doesn't even use his Storm email- he leaves players alone.

Teo has made massive improvements, when Kevvie hired a defence coach that loses Grand Finals 46-32 I thought oh gee.

But was massive last year in getting his message across of just be in the shot- that's a huge part of defence, yes someone has missed a tackle, yes they're running up field but if we have six people in the shot we are a chance to stop it.

There was a report that this was the biggest issue the players had with Madge at the start of last season.

After the Manly debacle the leadership group reportedly raised it with Madge who took their concerns on board and adjusted how the meetings / review sessions went

The rest as they say is history
