Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Well who ever suggested this can fk off:

For the Broncos to sign Barnett, they'd likely have to send someone like Willison, Jensen or Talty to New Zealand. George said they won't accept a transfer fee because it doesn't go towards the club's salary cap. It might make a lot of sense for Willison to go the other way as he was born in New Zealand and has played two Tests for the Kiwis.

No thanks, to any of of it.

Got it!
If they want someone, send JetSki.
Useless. Or Piakura. Time to move on.
The problem is, even then I wouldn’t want Barnett.
It sounds mostly the agent is showing off his skills by pulling us into these negotiations just to upsell so he gets his cut. Sure, we might’ve considered him when they first came out with the news but I reckon our thinking heads might’ve moved on from it truly.

Newcastle it is where he’ll go back to i reckon.

Where's Fletcher Baker when you need him?

I doubt Newcastle have a player that will satisfy the Wahs

They haven't released him yet, they've said he can but it's up to him now to go and find a club and then go back to the Warriors and the Warriors will then talk to that club about a player swap.
That's my understanding too. To Wahs fans he's as good as released, he's definitely going, it's just a question of to where.

Guessing that means there'll be some complex negotiations coming, if there's a player swap then Barnett, the Warriors, the other club and the swapped player will all have to sign off on it. Personally I'd love it if we could find a way to get Barnett, and we've had a great relationship with the Wahs (they released Walsh back to us, Arthars was on loan there, etc) so I'd hope that can continue.

I wonder if they're willing to put their foot down on this and refuse to release him if they don't get a player.

What if other clubs refuse? They're seriously going to force him to see out his contract? He's got very good reasons to want to come back to Australia. Can't imagine the optics will be good for the Warriors in that situation.

Weird that they'd officially announce his release if they hadn't actually released him. Surely you'd just wait until something was sorted.

Could just be hedging there bets that they get a good enough player swap. It's coming out either way, you don't go offering yourself around to a million clubs with the proviso of a player swap and it not getting into the media. Best to come from the horses mouth.

I don't think they have officially announced it.

Go to the website and the only mention of it is a 2 minute video from Barnett ... Uploaded after the media story came out

The wording is very clear, they don't say has been released.

Warriors CEO Cameron George today announced the 31-year-old Kangaroos and New South Wales front rower will be released from the final year of his contract.

Mitchell and Orr still have some work to do.

No doubt the wording is clear, it's just a strange announcement to make when nothing has actually happened.

Also the use of "will be released" only to be followed up by a giant "IF" the next day just makes them look like dickheads.
