Tigers only have a 14.3% win rate with Todd too (1 win from 7 games).
If we just go by these numbers, it’s obvious that we should walk away with a W. If we do, that should instill a lot of confidence & self belief in the 17 that played the night & simultaneously it gives a very powerful dose of morphine to our recovering troops, Walsh especially who’s destined to carve up things when he’s back.

I fear Walsh may take some time to get back to his best. He was a bit hesitant in contact for a long time after his previous similar injuries, which I can't blame him for tbh, I don't imagine having your face caved in is fun. So I don't expect him to set the world on fire straight away, it might take until well into the season for him to find his feet properly again.

They'll do something because there have always been byes around origin time... so at worst they'll give every team probably 2 between game 1 to the round after game 3.

But the comp will have to be shortened from 24 games per team... the RLPA will complain given how stupid the current schedule is.
There really hasn't. In years of even teams the NRL has just played straight through Origin. At least that is my memory of it. Perhaps there have been a few minor exceptions? But not many, if any at all.

They used to have split rounds, so teams would receive two byes each year. They even had it where they would suspend the competition and play international fixtures instead.

Is this common for a player to have his cheek bone broken twice in three years?

You can’t blame the Titans for his recent one but looking back, the non-reaction from the Sydney press in 2024 was wild.

- Panther rushes up and in and breaks Walsh’s cheekbone (“no penalty, accidents happen” - Joey Johns)
- Suali’i blasts Walsh’s head into Mars while he was falling, his season from there on in was derailed (“you can’t ruin an Origin game for that” - Joey Johns in commentary)

Can you imagine if this happened to Cleary? Tedesco? Trbojevic? Are we that parochial in our hatred of the other state or is Walsh that polarising with his swan dives, black fingernails and audacious talent that we downplay foul play?

Credit to Johns, he walked back on his later statement but from memory the only person cracking the shits at the time was Walters.

Cheers @Big Pete

Was this common place? Dating back 30+ years?

I've been watching since '92 and I strongly remember the Broncos being severely and consistently impacted by Origin - but maybe the byes etc were still there and the Broncos just got them at the wrong time?

Any word on how Jordan Riki is going with his supposed foot injury and Hass with his hamstring injury.
We really need these two playing..

It probably came in whenever a new broadcast deal popped up, as that is when the CBA, salary cap, games, etc. all get finalised.

Likely that either the RLPA or the teams kicked up a stink about the whole origin period and they got byes included.

Just checking old ladders on NRL.com and it looks like byes have been around from the 2002 season onwards.

Teams always got a minimum of 2 byes so we always had to play at least 1 origin affected game each year.

Adult life is literally all about avoiding as much responsibility as possible, I guess

100% corrupt

You only have to look down in Sydney and rabbits have been granted an exemption to play Dufty from NSW Cup who's on a T&T.

This despite them having Latrell, Johnston and Wighton who have played fullback at NRL level... and theyve got Latrell Seigwalt... an actual ****ing fullback ... under contract.

Bacially a salary cap rort being able to play Dufty but have him sit outside the salary cap.

It's a tough one because I don't know how long you are going to get out of any of our options at 9. I know Rogers filled in at hooker last week, but that early game traffic is a different beast. You can't start Buk, and neither Rogers or Duffy are used to making that many tackles. I wouldn't mind Duffman in the starting 13, but I reckon there is a very good chance we are going to need some spark from him later in the game. Tough choices for Madge, wouldn't be shocked if our team changes a fair bit from the TLT.

Do we start Duffy at Hooker with Bukowski to deputize?

Rogers is reportedly going to start with Bukowski to the bench.

Duffy may be the unlucky one to drop off, but I would still have him on the 6 man bench
