Q-CUP 2026 Queensland Cup Discussion

Toowoomba 24-0 after 25 minutes.
Toowoomba 24-20 60 minutes.

Coates a double, beats one and goes over with two on him. Nice right foot step.

Souths 30-24.

Five to go, Toowoomba haven't scored after 25 minutes.

Bears and Souths don't make Meninga finals.
Wynnum minor premiers.

Wynnum v Cutters
Dolphins v Townsville

Bryce 80 minutes for the third game in a row.
27 tackles
1 try
two-line breaks
One Line break assist- great offload.

Just got to work on his defence, four missed tackles and eight ineffective is very high.

But still say he'd be the perfect NRL extra man on the bench.

Sorry forgot one and two get the week off week one.

Townsville v Bears.
Cutters v Tweed.

Winners to play Dolphins and Wynnum.

Francis named on an extended Cup bench for Bears. With Meninga playing I would say he drops back there to play the final in Townsville.

Is Bryce someone who might translate more to being a centre at NRL level? I bit like Izaak Tago who was always a backrower but ended up in the centres?

Honestly don't know, I have been really pleased this year, he's playing Cup, he's playing 80 minutes and he's contributing in defence and on the weekend in attack.

That hole running off his half was outstanding, his offload was great and showed great awareness.

He showed a bit of mongrel against the Titans when they wanted to push him around and he fought back. He's never shown that in Meninga before.

Him learning off Coster nearly brings a tear to my eye. I would have nearly named him today not with a view to playing him but just as a reward for the last month. He deserves a shout out more than Francis.

Basil Coates has emerged as the latest member of rugby league’s flying family to appear on the radar of the PNG Chiefs as the fledgling club eyes a potential triple swoop ahead of their first season.
Sport Confidential can reveal that the youngest of the Coates triumvirate has been earning rave reviews for his performances with Tweed in the Mal Meninga Cup.

Phillip and Xavier Coates were already on the Chiefs’ radar given their connections of the country - Xavier was born in Port Moresby and their mother is from the Gulf Province in PNG.

Significantly, Phillip recently signed a one-year extension with the Brisbane Broncos that means he and Xavier both come off contract at the end of 2027, making them prime targets for the game’s newest franchise.

Xavier Coates was always going to be a priority target for the Chiefs given he is one of the best wingers in the game, Phil Coates is a rising star at the Broncos and the 18-year-old Basil has been scoring tries for fun in lower grades.

Hasn't scored a single try this season in Meninga, played three games off the bench and two at fullback in the season.
