Lets put this to bed: Madge was the right call over Kevie

He even just looks at the blokes like he's their proud dad 😂

Maguire reminds me of Chris Fagan, the Lions coach and you know how much I love the Lions. We are back as a powerhouse thanks to Maguire. I just don't want Kevvie's SIGNIFICANT contributions to be forgotten.

Its because of Kevvie we got Reynolds. Kevvie is who got Piaks to stay. Kevvie's assistants were who Maguire used to win the premiership.

I thought you were quoting Cobbo for a second there. haha

But seriously, Kev was exactly what this club needed post spoon. Fixed our culture. Cut some dick-heads. Instilled some values in these young blokes.

They failed in '23 because they lacked some tools in their kit, mental toughness, a hard edge that only comes through battle scars and predominantly fitness.

Kev was the cake, Madge was the frosting and toppings. Everyone comes for the frosting and toppings, but they ain't shit with out a decent cake to hold it together from the get go.
I was haha also a lot of others.

So you are saying that McGuire is the Siebold to Kevin Walters?

Many people were not sold on kev's appointment. He did bring us back from Siebold, but that is just such a low low benchmark. Great football in 23, very 90's Broncos.

Maybe talk to the playing group around Kevin Walters, they would be the best judge; did he lose the dressing room?

Anywayz, Madge bagged a 2nd GF as a coach. Has the team winning when they shouldn't, and defense is a strong point. The amount of players standing up in an injury crisis, is a stark contrast to season 24.

This is Madges team, and they look tough and dangerous. Madge would have won the 23 GF.

If Madge was coaching in 23 I'm not sure we make the grand final.. the 23 90's style Broncos is how Kev coached them and let guys like Walsh, Ezra, Reynolds play like they did.
Madge comes in 25 and knows what we were capable because of 23 and just fine tunes and gets us to the next level with the fitness and 1%ers that Kev couldn't do.

In 24 the guys coming in when we struggled with players out were a fair way off the same standard.
Some guys that have really stood up in Willison, Mariner, Karapani had all played under 10 NRL games in 24.

We could have won a premiership with Kev but with what Madge has brought in we can go on a run like Penrith.
Both coaches have played their parts at the right times.

Both as important as each other IMO
Kev built the culture, he got these guys loving the club and showed them what a Bronco was all about.
I don't think Madge gets Reynolds here and read a story recently on how he stopped Piakura from going to the dogs.
What Kev built might win you one premiership (we nearly did) but it won't keep you at the top, you can only go for so long on talent and emotion.
Madge has came and brought everything needed to get to the top and stay there.
Kev had this group when they were younger and less mature and he was probably the perfect coach for that time, Madge has the group now where they are ready for what he brings.

You don't have Dynasties like what Penrith have achieved without the work both coaches have done.
The Penrith comparison is a good one. Kev is the Hook and Madge the Ivan Cleary

If our 2025/2026 team played Penrith in the '23 GF, we would of beaten Penrith comfortably. The mental toughness, hard edge and fitness we have is all thanks to Madge Maguire. I would absolutely run through a wall for Madge, he brought home our 7th title, we waited 19 years for that and it really is all Madge. A memory and feeling I'll never ever forget. And look at us now, in 2026, we have a trillion players out and we're beating top teams with 80% of our team missing. Madge is the ****ing General and Leader we needed to turn our boys into men. Madge has actually turned us into a systems team and I can't believe it when I'm watching games at times. It's so great to see.

In saying that, I do agree that Kev is what we needed at the time. I'm so thankful for what he's done for us as a player and a coach, he definitely deserves credit also, no doubt about that.

It very likely wouldn't have worked out if Madge took over from the start.

He wouldn't have had the leaders to help implement what he wanted and to drive standards. The signing of Reyno and Capewell made a big difference with that but he wouldn't have had them. Even guys like Kapow and James would have helped in that department.

Kevvie was the right person to come in and fix the rot that had set in, to fix the roster and bring pride back into the jersey but he was never going to be the guy that took us to the promised land and I do wish the club had recognized that sooner. But eventually they did and now Madge is turning is back into a powerhouse.

Kev was 100% what we needed at the time. The morale at the club was at an all time low. Kev bought the pride, and feel good back into the Broncos.

Madge has bought standards into the club, mental toughness, and is getting the most out of players. Nobody refers to the Broncos as showponies anymore.

Kev deserves respect for turning a wooden spoon club into playing in a GF contender in a few seasons. Kev pick us up from the floor, but Madge has equally transformed the Broncos.

The challenge for Kev, is the same as it was for Madge with respect to learning from your mistakes. Madge has learnt, I'd like to see Kev have that oppotunity.

Agree massively with this, he did bring us out of the cellar and get the players and fans excited again. He deserves his flowers 100% for that.

And an absolute superb 2023, it was kev-ball , he's stated numerous times thats how he likes rugba leeg to be played.

I personally think he did get his shots... memory is hazy but off the top of the dome;

in 24, I believe we had multiple, numerous games where we had the likes of Walsh/Mam/Haas + co. to win SOME games to scrape into the 8 but we lost all of them, games the team should have absolutely been up for (considering the 23 heartbreak).

And some of them we got absolutely flogged... and from all reports Kev had resorted to pretty much spraying the team hysterically tactic (ironically Madge's tiger town vibes 😅 )... and we all saw the results. Injuries or not, there was zero resilience in the team.

Also, I think it was mentioned before on these forums somewhere, but those 'horse whisperer' vibes and speech... was getting real cringe. It didn't really look like he had answers in press conferences, etc... especially since Kev seemed the type to show his cards etc. He seemed emotional and stressed, etc.

The bronx COULD have given him 25... but look at what happened to Siebs/Flanno this year... with our roster and superstarts... a disastrous 2025 start would have been a season write off... and possible post 2015 vibes could have happened all over again.

Kev played his part ... but the current team... what they are showing on the field... I dont think it happens under Kev. (I guess we'll never know)

On a side note, is anyone else a little concerned about our halves next season? Losing Reynolds means losing great control and leadership. I don't feel good putting Pezet in there next to Mam. Pezet is so inexperienced.

Solution is keeping Hunty for 1 last season playing 7 and having Pezet learn from Reynolds (coaching staff) and Hunty as well as Trent Barrett. Feels right. Smoother transition.

Duffy came in and did an excellent job filling in for reyno just a couple of games ago. Was super unlucky not to come away with the win. Kicking was excellent pass selection was good. Im backing this guy to be our guy moving forward.

Duffy will be in the mix .
When I see Pezet play on the right and not miss tackles then I might start to believe in him .

Kev was there when we were at our lowest from getting the wooden spoon to the 2023 grand finale then Madge came and gave us a kick in the ass this how we should be and he got us to breaking our 19 premiership drought to be over

Kevie is the Broncos equivalent of an immortal. In a perfect timeline he would be chaining together premierships as Broncos coach.

Unfortunately I don't think he's coaching is that good. One of the best personalities in football handsdown.

But man under McGuire we are playing SMART, FIT football. We've never looked so well coached.
