POST GAME [Round 9, 2026] - Broncos vs Roosters

NRL major sponsors appearances are free money, they're not on the cap. So can't be any rort. They can use whomever they want and pay them whatever they want.

Fox and Telstra.

Reynolds etc giving up their Saturday is just smart.
Sus that they keep bringing in uncharismatic Roosters players who can barely string a sentence together though, right?

This is rugby league though, uncharismatic and barely string a sentence together still makes them the most suitable options by default when compared to the rest who are “actively antisocial” and “can’t string a sentence together”

Whilst I often enjoy a good stereotype, there's hundreds of better options playing or retired that would be better options than what the media give us. How JWH has a job in the media will never make sense to me. Blokes got food in his mouth and brings nothing to the table. It's embarrassing.

This was a game well within our ability to win. However, one of the worst 40 minutes I've seen in years and errors and brain explosions put paid to the comeback.

Having said that, having to chase down a 28-30 point lead isnt really the meta of 2026 NRL, even though we proved mulitple times last year that the team is indeed perfectly capable of doing it...

Once again though, another week where 'next man up' prevails.

A lot of fringe players we have will definitely get a long look at NRL time this season.

Much like (ironically) the Roosters last year, those same guys are reaping the reward of experience and passing the 'sink or swim' test this year.

Our future right now...looks bright. Even if the present is hard to bear.

That's been the former player rugby league media landscape for 50 years. It's got worse because now we need 50 of them to cover the game not two.

Yeah I actually agree with you. It wasn’t a great joke.

I do actually enjoy Cronk. He stumbles over his words quite a bit, not great at calling live action but I do appreciate his knowledge.

JWH is absolutely a talking head that nobody needed.

You have the peak of Blocker Roach commentary when Jack Wighton walks off holding his arm gingerly. Blocker “looks like an arm injury”

No ****ing shit bloke

Cronks ability to tell you he was correct after he says "they'll go right here" when the closest player on the left is a crowd member is mighty impressive. And his hatred for the Broncos isn't even rivaled by his love for the Roosters.

Mariner's injury is reportedly so rare that it only happens in 0.1% of cases.

He will be in hospital in Sydney for at least another 2 weeks.

Our Doctor, Matt Hislop said:

“He will play again,”

“It’s just a matter of when we can do it safely and minimise complications for Deine down the line.

“It’s too early to put a date on that.

“I won’t make a comment on whether he comes back this year because you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. If it goes exceptionally well we will be accused of rushing him back, but right now Deine is a week-to-week proposition.

“Early indications are promising, but the problem when you have that compartment syndrome and you open it up ... I don’t know if you have seen pictures of that type of surgery, but it’s pretty brutal.

“When we said it was limb threatening, we weren’t joking.”

Dr Hislop explained the procedure required to save Mariner’s career and said he had never seen such an injury in the NRL.

“It’s a cut from your hip down to your knee,” he said.

“The problem is the muscle bulges out because it is under pressure.

“The issue is you have to close it up again.

“You can’t close it up too soon, otherwise it will just happen again. For the next week or week-and-a-half, they will monitor Deine, he is getting awesome treatment in Sydney and they are giving us regular updates.

“What they will try and do is close it up piece by piece, every few days.

“It’s like cutting a sausage and all the innards fall out, then trying to tuck all that back in and stitch the sausage skin back together again.

“It’s pretty uncommon.

“I did a search of case studies and found a couple in rugby around the world where they had similar injuries, but the difference with Deine is he has really big quads to start with.

“I have never seen a thigh compartment syndrome in a rugby league player.

“I see a lot of it in my clinical practice, but this variety of it is an emergency and if you don’t get surgery within five or six hours of its onset, then the muscle can die and that’s irreversible.

“He went to bed OK and within an hour-and-a-half he was in agony.

“It was less than a 0.1 per cent chance of happening, so it’s extremely rare.

“He is getting more surgery over the course of the week.

“The plan is to send him home once it has all closed up, so it’s going to be one to two weeks before he comes back to Brisbane.”

On Tuesday morning, his fiancee, Grace, thanked the rugby league community for its overwhelming support after enduring a “really tough few days” by Mariner’s bedside.

“Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful messages,” Grace posted on social media.

“They’ve meant more than I can put into words.

“He’s taken the time to read every single one and truly felt all the love and support around him.

“It’s been a really tough few days but he’s on the road to recovery.”

Mariner’s manager Dixon McIver said:

“I’ve spoken to Deine, he is in high spirits. He is hoping to come back but you never know with these things. We’re all just supporting him and very thankful to the Broncos and the doctors.”

I've seen pics of a mates calf after compartment syndrome surgery and the description by the Doc is spot on.

About ****ing time something was said in the media! "Accidental" is not a defence and has never been a defence for anything in our game! That replay is brutal, you could see it at live speed but then the replay, my goodness. How that's not 'careless' at a minimum is beyond belief.

The fact it was not penalised, and then not charged, is 100% down to the fact Patty got up and played on. It still should have been pulled up regardless. But this is why the likes of Melbourne and some other teams are such ****ing whingers - not only do some innocuous things get paid, but at other times it's the only way for actual infringements to be pulled up. If Pat stays down, Radley gets binned and we likely go on to win the game. This is why the diving and appealing has reached plague proportions.

At this point, we are the idiots for not staying down. If Pat stays down there and if Karapani stays down we have 2 sin bins, Radley ****face is suspended like he should be and we likely win the game. What do we get for doing the right thing and not staying down? A lost game, one of our players sin binned later and Karapani with an injury. **** all the way off.

Just FYI on why the BYD connection with the Roosters is actually a bit suss, and IMO should be audited.

AP Eagers is the exclusive distributor of BYD cars in Australia, and one of the directors, is none other than Nick Politis.

I wonder if some shares are tied up in trusts with certain individuals as beneficiaries?

Do AP do boats aswell, they come in handy to take cash out to international waters.

Lol'd, can't drive it.

We were ten years late on the wrestle too. We are the only team that tries to play this game how it’s supposed to be played and we get dudded for it. The Super League should have won.

Would also add that we most likely get a free interchange too.
