Meanwhile Laurie is indicating he's only picking one of Edwards or Teddy... I wonder if he's even up to speed with what the 6 man bench even is.

Will he pick 6. Moses and 7. Cleary... and even if you don't pick Moses at 6 surely you still pick him on the extended, because why the **** wouldn't you... but then it's Laurie... he could pick like 5 forwards and a spare hooker.

lets assume Walsh get's picked on the bench.

I guarantee you there is zero chance he doesn't take the field at some point in the match.
 
If Walker does get picked i could very well be proven wrong, but I'm firmly against him getting the QLD no.7.

Assuming Walsh is selected at fullback, a combination of Walsh, Walker and munster is a recipie for disaster. Behind a pack that is more then likely going to be steamrolled and on the back foot all night won't give them 3 or Harry for that matter, anything to work with. 100% if it was club land and the opposition had some weaknesses they could be lethal but in this arena i can't see it working.

Personally I'd be going Fogarty for his boot or DCE purely for his ability to organise and because he's done it before.

I'd probably also be putting Cotter and finefeuiaki on the edges as set and forgets for the 80 mins. And Plath on the bench to give Patty a spell at lock

Apart from that I'd be looking at who can offer the best defence and meters going out of trouble. looking at the size and class NSW have on offer I think QLDs only chance is to hang on there for 65 mins and stay within striking distance before hoping to get some late momentum and steal it at the death.
 
Ale’s middles are pretty good, they should hold their own. It’s the second rowers and backs that are the issue.

As much as I don’t want Broncos picked, this is the side I’d go with:

2. Ponga
3. Toia
4. Purdue
5. Hammer
6. Munster
7. DCE
8. Tino
9. Grant
10. Flegler
11. Finefuiaki
12. Luki
13. Carrigan

14. Bunt
15. Cotter

Honestly, I would like it to be the case where minimum to no Bronx players get picked for the Origin series.

However, I wonder what his contributions are at the club. Agree it’s only couple of hours at best weekly pep talk that he agreed to do with us but what kind of pep talk has he provided over the last 4-5 weeks to motivate the squad? We couldn’t name a squad without bringing in reggies & his talk could have motivated the team immensely had he been involved. Instead, he boots in at every opportunity be it during live game commentary or during his CH9 gig.

I absolutely HATE those Storm cheats. They’re inveterately biased towards us & only want to inflict bad.

Ponga is easier to fit into a stock cookie cutter offence and still be elite... whereas we've seen that Reece can struggle to fit into a structure if he doesn't have the right half.

So in that sense Ponga is a better chance of complimenting the rest of the spine and still be a gun, whereas Reece can go into his shell if he's not the focal point of the attack... also if he is the focal point of the attack there's a chance he can be erratic and lead to errors from trying too hard.

Beyond that defusing bombs and kicks is the number 1 criteria for a fullback in origin to me... Reece hasn't shown that he's consistent enough at it, but his best ever performance under the high ball was during 2023 origin when Billy had a hold of him... hopefully he can get him back to that.

I think that 2023 origin is what will sway Billy to Reece.

Billy has been able to get the best out of him, and in that series he was fitting into a structure and doing his role.

Whoever doesn't get selected will be on the bench as a minimum... and in that sense Ponga is easier to fit into side from the bench as well.

Ponga is one of the most overrated players to ever play this game. It's so insane that he's still being talked about in this space. The bloke is a myth.

I get it.

Neither Tedesco or Edwards could fill any other spot, they could pick someone else to play a role as a utility and probably get more out of them.

Connor Watson for example.

You could chuck either Ponga or Walsh in the halves, or just as an extra body, they're both very agile.

But that's basically the same with Ponga and Reece... they're both fullbacks.

If Billy wants to go Ponga at fullback there's no real need to pick Reece, but he'd still pick him on the extended.

I can see Walsh going down the Lockyer career pathway, turning into a 5/8 if he were to ever lose a bit of speed. He's got all the attributes of a 5/8.

This extended bench thing is making Origin even more difficult for the season to have to deal with. 40+ of the games elite players basically out of commission for at least 3 weeks, half of them probably not backing up. I can't think of another sport that does this.

That’s because other professional sports are professionally run. PVL continues to be amateurish and only masquerades as professional.

The only issue with him is his injuries. When he is on the field he is elite.

He dominated a generationally terrible Dragons team so let's select him over the reigining CCM, incumbent Kangaroo FB who walked on water in the finals last year!

We all say we do, greatest spectacle blah blah blah…. But do we really care?

Would anyone this forum swap last year’s finals run and Premiership for a 3-0 QLD clean sweep with 10 Broncos involved in 2026?!

If they want origin to truly return they need to let the players fight again. That was half the fun ffs.
