FOOTBALL FIFA World Cup 2026

So if Ronaldo wins the World Cup.

Does that then make him the GOAT?

So if Ronaldo wins the World Cup.

Does that then make him the GOAT?

No. As good as they are, I dont think him or Messi are on the same level as Maradona tbf. Maradona would have been even more phenomenal in the modern game where the hatchet men are none existent and he could have just expressed himself with more freedom.

It’s between maradona, Şentürk, and that guy who bites people….forget his name.

Actually this guy probably belongs somewhere in the top 3. I remember this was on the front page news of the cm sports section back in the day.

These two are the goats for me.

Put all your money on Djibouti or Faroe Islands. I have a very good inside sauce that tells me that will be the final.

Why would it?

The whole debate about Messi or Ronaldo being the GOAT has been trophies won.

Messi has more domestic titles, but Ronaldo has more Champions League titles. Both have had success with their countries, Ronaldo with the Euro and Messi with the Copa America. When Messi won the World Cup, that put him clear.

But if Ronaldo wins it this tournament, he would have a World Cup and a Euro trophy to his name and frankly a Euro trophy is harder to win than a Copa America.

Why would that not put him clear?

But of course I guess it all depends on whether people think either of them are the GOAT and the kind of role Ronaldo has this tournament. If he's nothing more than a bit part player, kind of ruins it for him.

I don't think agree with a lot of what Jamie Carragher says, I think he speaks a lot of shit. But he made a good point about France and why they won't win the World Cup.

Essentially it all comes down to Mbappe's ego. He was with PSG, didn't win a Champions League, he leaves and suddenly PSG win two in a row. Dembele being the star boy, that would hurt Mbappe's ego and he would do overplay his hand this tournament to prove a point that he's the top dog on the France squad and not Dembele. He would take too many touches, make too many forced shots to try and be the star boy.

It could hurt them.

R9 was phenomenal but injuries hit him hard.

Must admit, i dont agree with the amount of trophies won makes you the GOAT. When you only play for the very best teams, you are going to win trophies. For example, what Maradona achieved with both Argentina and Napoli was exceptional and only a player of his ability could have dragged those teams to success like he did.

Still, hard to compare players from different eras anyway because of the difference in the game. YOu can probably only really say who is the best player of their era.

The trophies debate is similar in a way to how people rate SAF higher than Pep or vice versa. I'm bias of course, but SAF doing what he did with Aberdeen to me, is a bigger achievement than Pep only going to the best team in the league with the most money and dipping to go to other top teams in other leagues when there's a fight for the title.

If we're comparing Fake Ronaldo and Messi, Messi is the clear winner, regardless of trophies.

Fake Ronaldo has had a phenomenal career, but he doesn't have as many strings to his bow as Messi does.

Anyway, why do the best players always need to be attackers? There's plenty of goalkeepers, defenders and more defensively minded midfielders that I think miss out on recognition because they didn't do the fancy stuff.
