PRE-GAME [Round 17, 2026] - Broncos vs Roosters

Sounds like something the media and commentators should be talking about. We only ever hear about how other teams have injuries
We've also yet to have our strongest team on the field.

Closest we got was through the first 5 rounds
- No Piaks in rounds 1-2 vs Penrith and Parra
- No Shiba or Reyno in Rd 3 vs Melb
- No Haas in Rd 4 vs Dolphins
- No Karp in Rd 5 vs GC, but also lost Walsh at halftime and Reyno after 25mins

From then on we were missing 2 or more from the starting 13, closest we got since that point was Dargs, but we were missing Mariner, Riki and Jensen.

Funnily enough our attack has been at its worst when Walsh has played... huge change compared to last year where he was easily our most influential player.

We're also 0-5 without Mariner, 0-5 without Piaks and 0-3 without Staggs.

Big day today for Mozer, he plays well against PNG, scored two tries in 24, they're massive and he pulls them out of the line towards him then they are fodder when they are tired.

They are in horrible form too.

Mozer is two games back from his facial injury and played 40 minutes twice, if he can have a good game today and play bigger minutes with two weeks break, I think he can play against the Roosters.

As much as I don't think Paix should be in any long term plans, is throwing Mozer into a side that could get 50 put on them good for his development? Could be worth waiting until the side is closer to full strength again.

I think we are past that now, he's 22 and coming into the last year of his deal and played 53 Cup games now since 2022.

Even if it's in a team playing horribly, we need to see a string of NRL games.

You have to wonder wtf madge is thinking with him. Is he really happy with what paix brings us? At least with hunt he can say that there is cover for reyno when he gets a hamstring complaint.

Theres really no excuses for picking paix at this point. Particularly when mozer is available.

The issue is with Mozer is that he's suited towards that interchange bench role. If you drop Paix, you're shifting Hunt to 9 and Hunt has been as bad if not worse at 9 than Paix. He's essentially getting selected on reputation at this point than performance.

However something has to give and dummy half is the one position Madge can play around with.

You don't need to wonder what Madge is think re: Mozer ... That's an easy one.

He's been thinking that he has spent the better part of this year (and a good portion of last year) injured.

He's played 8/12 Bears games this year.

The story of his career.

Madge is that kid at school who has 3 girlfriends and its making him miserable.

He needs to hurt some feelings and stop trying to invite them all to school dance.

Last week he had:
- a halfback playing half back
- a half back playing 5/8
- a hooker playing hooker
- a halfback playing bench hooker, who then moved into some kind of roaming lock
- a 5/8 playing bench 5/8
- a 5/8 playing lock

At this point he needs to make some tough calls:

Reynolds, Paix, Hunt, Mam, Duffy, Mozer, Cam and soon Walters.

Personally, I think he should go:

Paix / Mozer
Reynolds
Mam
Walsh

Hunt is the perfect 18th man and should only get used if you have an injury in the halves or at hooker mid game, even lock in a pinch. He shouldn’t be a planned interchange.

If Reynolds is injured or Mam underperforming, Duffy comes in and plays the full 80, with Hunt’s bench role not changing.

Hunt’s bench spot, and Paix/Mozers spots should then be put under pressure if Billy becomes fit and firing.

For a long while I didn't think he'd be suited to that role, it used to frustrate me when Tweed played him off the bench in Meninga. I detested him playing 40 minutes and Paix playing minutes at Souths.

But Bears have a good thing going with Teague and Mozer, Teague plays the whole game in two roles and Mozer comes on and plays 50 minutes.

It's been so long since the Souths game that I genuinely thought we had the bye last weekend and I was waiting for team list Tuesday to drop.
