Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Black had completely disengaged in games; he wasn't in games at all. He had eight try assists last year for Souths- Milford had 27.

He wasn't kicking the ball in general play or for goals.

He's got 112 points this year 3rd most and kicked 45 goals 3rd most and leads every Cup kicking stat.

He's already got seven TA's this year for the Raiders and scored five tries.

He might be cranky at the Broncos and maybe they didn't effectively communicate with him, but I think moving away from the Broncos will be the best thing for hm- it's already showing that.

The try he scored against the Eels last week was a hit up a damn hit up and he forced his way over! The second one he steps back inside and runs 20m to score. He was never doing either of those at Souths.

That's a great signing. Duffy will definitely put pressure on Pezet and competition for spots is always a good thing.

How much of that is potentially having Milford as his halves partner... and potentially Khunt identifying Milf as the primary half?

Milf is a decent playmaker at Qcup level, but also hugely experienced compared to Black, so I could see Khunt wanting the play to go through him... and despite wearing the 6 jersey, Milf is definitely a half that has basically become a 7 and wanting it at first receiver.

In his later years he wasn't a second receiver running five eight, despite wearing the 6 jersey.

I'm not sure who Coby's halves partner is at Canberra, but it might be a better pairing if it has allowed him to be a genuine halfback

Really want to see Duffy play at 7 for extended minutes, not thrown in as a 5/8th to one of the most experienced halves in the game. When he has he's played at halfback he's done well.

looks like Reynold's will be ok for the round after the bye so we probably won't see it unfortunately.

I am not too sure, maybe it's Ricky maybe Chris Lewis but something is working; his last month has been outstanding.

His last game against the Eels; he never produced here at Meninga or Cup level.

18 points
2 tries
5/7 conversions
9 runs
92m
2 line breaks
1 line break assist
2 try assists
3 tackle breaks
15 tackles
0 missed
12 kicks
339m

That's about 16 games worth at Souths. It's not like the Raiders Cup side are killing it either they've only won 6 games. If he'd done that last year, I doubt the Broncos look to Duffy.

I'm on a flight down to Sydney this morning for work and just saw Trent Barret on the same flight.

90% chance he's just visiting while the team has the bye but hopefully he's here on business. Flight is 100% full and he's in row 1 so I can't see if any other Broncos staff are with him.

Why? He's a fantastic assistant coach, would be a real shame to lose him.
He's definitely got a better track record as an assistant than a head coach, but I'm still just not that big of a fan. Think we could do several things in attack better than we do with the talent we have.

That's not all on him either obviously, but he is the attacking coach.

Fair points but I think this side is so broken at the moment, nothing is going to help. It doesn't matter what plans you put in place if players aren't running in support, dropping off tackles, dropping the ball and turning their back to the play.

These are rugby league principles 101. If players can't do them, even with so many injuries, the head coach is the one who needs to make a stand. Neither Arthars or Piki should be playing next game because of those two issues with fundamentals. Arthars should be shopped around before June 30. You are in a contract year and you pull that wilful lack of effort out early in the game - it just deflates your teammates.

I would agree if only talking about this year, but even last year there was periods where our attacking structures could have been even better than they were. We made some incredible comebacks and whatnot, and scored shitloads of points at times, just not sure how much of that was from great attacking structures or planning, and how much was Walsh just basically becoming unplayable at times.

I think we need to sort ourselves out defensively first regardless. Attack will improve on the back of not being fatigued all the time from defending.

For sure. I think our completely falling apart defense actually implies Teo did a better job than we gave him credit for.

Except our defence was crap last year and crap to start the year.

First game after Teo left was Storm and we then went on a 3 game winning streak (storm, phins and titans).

After titans we lost Reece to his fractured cheek, Reyno to whatever happened to him, Bhunt to his MCL, etc.

Lost to cows due to "reasons"... then won 2 in a row vs tigers and dogs with baby broncos squads.

Then rorters and wahs happened and we were penalised and six again'd into oblivion.

The squad has been battling ever since... but it may be that rorters and wahs broke the camel's back.

Also noting as well that we are down a defensive coach and Ballin has also been off doing origin duties... so we're running at skeleton staff during origin... again... that's not including whoever else Qld take in terms of trainers, physio, etc.

They don't miss Broncos' games, all Queensland staff worked the Broncos v Souths game.

They miss a few training sessions.

So, are DD & MM in the lookout for a “decent” D coach or not? They’re sitting on this from R3 and had plenty of time since then to secure one.
