It doesn't matter if the losses were debt or not, in the context of you have a gambling addiction either way. The mental state is the same. Folks with a gambling addiction chase their losses. Whether those losses are cash or debt is irrelevant to the way the addiction functions in the brain.
It doesn't matter if he did or didn't place bets on NRL, in the context of whether or not he should have been allowed to continue reffing at the highest level. It does of course matter with regard to the ultimate consequence/penalty/outcome of the situation.
