on 2026 form? Not so sure.

He's had what, 2 good games all year? There comes a time for hard calls. Lots of coaches have dropped big names when they are playing like shit. Particularly the legends, like Wayne.

Stripped the captaincy and dropped King Wally. Dropped Kevvie. Dropped Sailor. Dropped Boyd.

Langer quit mid-season to go to super league - many still believe that Wayne had a hand in that because he was going shithouse for us.
I didn’t think Boyd got dropped, rode the wave all the way to baby gender reveal then retirement.

Oh so now we're limiting results to one particular coach? So no longer "there is not a single coach in the game" - but now a single coach? Talk about changing the goal posts.

Sure, they lost 8 games. But watching those games, it wasn't Munster solely to blame for their woes, the whole team was playing like shit and they were chopping and changing players regularly, particularly in the middle and on the edges.

ARey has been dogshit for months with the odd good game. He's frequently hobbling and struggling to get through games. His kicking was back to a good standard early in the year but went off a cliff again. We basically have to permanently hold a bench spot free to bring in a half to cover for him as he's either been injured in and struggled on, or come off injured in half the games he's played this year.

Compare that to a 32 year old Munster who played like shit for two months at the start of the year and has started to find some form as the year progressed. Hasn't had the injury woes. Still has several good years left and went on to captain QLD.

Adam's gotten worse, not better.

NAS isn't Munster, but he sure as shit got dropped by Bellyache for not performing and was on probably the same or more than what ARey's on this year.

Hasler dropped FiFi, one of the highest paid players in the NRL.

and also:

"Bellamy, widely rated as one of the best coaches in history"

Who is the master coach? Who again? Bennett. He's the master coach. I went straight to the top for my example.

Bellamy dropped Slater too. Bennett dropped Lazo to reserve grade in 94 Plenty of examples of stars being dropped.

One Souths forward made it from the 84 Grand Final to the 85 Grand Final because Bennett decided they weren't going to get it done for him- five gone in 12 months.

Bennett dropped Ben Hunt in 17 after two straight loses. Didn't Mam get dropped this year for Duffy.

Reyno looked seriously lost last night... and why wouldn't he... Reece was playing his position and role in the team so he had no idea what he was meant to be doing out there.
Problem is that Reyno hasn’t played like a quality half for most of the season so Walsh has no choice but to do his job too!

Next week have Bhunt and Mam as halves as Walsh can kick long if needed.

I think it was planned that Reece do most of the kicking. Reyno is underdone but can still defend. Even with his poor form we shouldnt be niaive and think hes forgotten how to play football. Hes still the most knowledgeable player in our team and our most experienced.

He also deserves to go out the way he wants. The bloke rescued our club from the brinks of hell and we should send him out as the respected club legend he is.

I'm not sure this is EXACTLY what's being argued. How many of these stars were dropped the year after a premiership and the year they were retiring? Those players were dropped so they can be kicked in the ass and come back, if we drop Reynolds now what does it show? That the club doesn't care about what a player has done for the club. It's unfortunate because I believe he should be dropped, but it's not good man management to drop the premiership halfback just before he retires. And no coach worth a damn is dropping that player in their team either, because man management is bloody important.

Especially if the player in question also happens to be captain of the club

I re-watched the game last night because, well, its been a while...and i actually think reynolds wasnt that bad in hindsight.

He had a shocking first 20 mins (where i thought he should retire immediately) and he was obviously under done but i actually think he was a large reason we won. Crazy i know, but there was a 20 minute period where he took charge and we kept them under the pump. Walsh was getting frustrated not getting the ball but reynolds was actually right. You dont beat penrith with make or break plays set after set, you complete your sets and play tough with the odd gamble.

The one thing Reynolds can control that he just doesn't is where he puts his bombs. Why is he always kicking them to the oppositions 20?

I can't think of too many players in Reynolds position.

Langer announced his sudden retirement.
Lamb wasn't the captain and played on due to the Super League player exodus.
Orford played on.

Now there's been instances where they've dropped the captain (Hokdinson 2017) but even that's pretty rare. Usually they're stripped of the captaincy before it gets to that point. (eg. Farah 2016).

We aren’t dropping our captain that drew us out of the shit when he has already announced his retirement and has likely 7 or so games left in his career. It’s a stupid call and a dumber argument, it should end.
