I'm sure Molo didn't intend to kill Ackerman, still happened, still had repercussions.

All well and good to tackle hard but when you're leaving your feet and making contact with the head and you've just fractured the other player's face when they don't have the ball, penalty sufficient isn't good enough.

I have never seen a head clash be suspended, on report etc like people expect here. Was it late, about a .1 of a second, they were both on the same stride as when he passed, when the collision happened.

I'm shitty that Walsh has been injured because I like him and we are so much better to watch when he's on the field, but I'm not going to fabricate offenses in my mind to build a victim mentality that lots of people on here seem to want to live in.

I'm loathe to agree with the NRL on anything but they got this one right imo.

The issue is that May flying in as he did was always going to end poorly. That is the foul play. He HAS to show some duty of care in a play like that. If that means bending down and putting himself in a vulnerable position then that is the risk of the play. This is how the sport is played fairly. There is a trade-off for every action. Race in to shut down a play, give away a penalty if you mistimed your run. Dig into the line, take a hit (like Cleary did when he got smacked by Piakura, but they scored). Balance

May went in carelessly at best (recklessly at worst) to make a hard tackle and it went wrong. it was not only late, but contact was made with the head.

if you say he shouldn't be charged because it is an accident, you may as well disband the MRC and judiciary as 99.9% of all charges stem from accidents and attempted tackles gone wrong.

even the most serious injuries that have occurred were from accidents. Molo didn't mean to kill Akermann; the Storm players didn't mean to put Alex McKinnon in a wheelchair. both of which are the results of tackles that went wrong (aka "accidents")

Agreed, he went in upright, Walsh didn't lower himself which is why I think Fault can be put on this, it was a careless attempt of a tackle.

It's not as bad as the Napa head first shit he used to do but it's similar considering he didn't lower his body for the tackle the entire process was careless.
 
Jumping into the tackle, leading with the shoulder and not attempting to wrap his arms around...... totally reckless by May.

The way May was jumping into the tackle meant there was always going to head contact, if Walsh wasn't rising as well then Mays shoulder would have been the contact point with Reece's head.

Back when the telecast was delayed so you'd tune into ABC radio to get the live coverage.

Would love to hear the audio because the way that I remember it, Morrow called it the worst thing he'd seen since Les Boyd intentionally broke Brohman's jaw. He was also going off on Ashton Sims for clapping the big hit.

I was worried the Broncos season could be over only two rounds in, only to tune in later and scoff at the absolute overreaction.

It was a different game back then. Nowadays Hunt would either be sin binned or sent off and be looking at a big stint on the sideline.

Pretty sure Hunt wasn't even suspended for it, but did the miss the following week through injury.

Another thing to note from this game was how Penrith protected the kicker on the 5th tackle:
The pass from Kenny at DH is thrown to Cleary, but Kenny tracks across to block the marker. Effectively providing an obstruction but legitimising it by having handled the ball, as opposed to blockers positioning themselves at the PTB. I think this is quite a clever tactic under the rules, and something that we should also employ.

Also a big shout out to Selwyn for withstanding the grubbery from Penrith in cleaning up at the back. I would say these tackles are more "accidental" than the tackle on Walsh, but they get let go every week despite the rules.

Momentum has stopped and chest is still behind the line. If the arm had not been moved, then it would have prevented the ball from being grounded on the line. Very disappointing showing from the refs on Thursday night, and it really should be something the NRL is more critical of.

I had stopped watching the game after about 20mins so I didn’t see this until I watched highlights today

That was a ridiculous decision but not unexpected because for some reason once you become a hyper-successful team, suddenly the rules aren’t enforced or they’re applied differently.

It makes the sport look so amateur

A decision like this makes me quite angry about things like the Hosking no try a couple years ago where he was reaching out to plant the ball in one motion while falling and his hand carrying the football grazed the ground as part of it and it was ruled a double movement.

But promoting the ball in a second movement after hitting the ground when tackled is fine if you wear a black jersey.

The May collision is another example and two weeks in a row their strike centre has been running at makeshift back lines which effectively has won them the games and here the offending player didn’t even have to go off for a HIA for a ruled ‘head clash’ because ‘for the fans’
 
Imagine two cars in an RTA.

Car ‘A’ is at fault with a head on collision with Car ‘B’, resulting in a serious head injury to the driver.

The police turn up and declare it’s only an accident, it wasn’t intentional, and allows the driver of Car ‘A’ to continue on his way with no punishment.

Hey, it was just an accident right?

Bonkers.
 
Remember the mantra of not so long ago, in the case of May's tackle it was late (very marginally) it was high, there was forceful contact made with the head of a player who had passed the ball. It would have been a sin bin and he would have been charged for certain not so long ago. The perfect example is Dale Finucane on Crichton I think it was.
