POST GAME [Round 3, 2024] Broncos vs Panthers

b4l is clearly on the marketing team, sorry mate, I'm still on my podcast/talk show ban - I won't be tuning in.

I'm co-leading the tipping competition so I'm going to guess that Denan and co. said it was unfortunate but just an accident but far out man.

You missed the part where they most likely called May an absolute throbber or something.

I still like Bloke in a Bar if I'm honest but the banter does get a bit dumb...frequently. The worst part I think is they've started to do the whole "Arguably best in his position..." when talking about players. Mate, he had 1 decent game...calm.

I'm tuning into them less and less, but they will no doubt be saying exactly what you've said... they will then gas bag on and on about how amazing panthers are... any time they talk about panthers in any given week I just skip it... it's almost as boring as watching penrith play.

If I do watch them it's to watch the broncos review and then any that might be of interest like seeing them backtrack on dragons after talking them in round 1 lol

Sounds like where Rabbitohs have found themselves.

Good stats from individuals. How's those good stats from individuals going for Jason?

First coach to be sacked this year.

Another one to add to the Broncos conspiracy theory. I wonder whether the result would be the same if someone like Tedesco, Turbo or dare I say Chin Cleary suffered a Walsh like head clash injury ...
It is a strange question because the commentators recently have been harping on strongly about how Walsh is the one putting bums on seats every week. So, in terms of viewership revenue, it is a definitive loss to the NRL and I am very surprised that the NRL weren't harsher on this issue initially.

The CM (Robert Craddock) published an article a few days ago saying that a Broncos legend (Tallis) had broken ranks on the May tackle arguing that it was an accident that should not be charged.

On NRL 360 Tallis argues the exact opposite saying May should have been charged.

This clip also had Kent slamming the NRL after they cleared the Panthers new tactics to block Cleary when he goes to kick

Interesting...I do think that May didn't intend for the outcome, more rushing Walsh. Nether the less, he rushed forward, plants his feet, and on toes, leans into Walsh. Torso and head forward, as he braces for contact.

Much like a hip drop gone wrong, nobody wants the damage. The NRL issued a duty of care prior to the season. The hip drop got penalised, and the judiciary made a statement. Coach's, and players changed style.
If you’re worried about head contact, and the nrl no doubt is, then screaming out of the line and trying to tackle the ball runner ‘ball and all’ is about as high risk as it gets outside of a swinging arm or shoulder charge imo. The tackler has no control over where or how they make contact when they’re just slamming their body against the runner with no intent to execute a regular tackle.

I agree. May was trying to rush Walsh.

May, having been schooled all week on Walsh; what a threat he is with space, just reacted.

It wasn't malicious. It was negligence.

Like the hip drop, if the NRL was serious, they'd make an example. They didn't.

The article I posted is hindsight now. It doesn't change our predicament. Hopefully, like the hip drop, they ping the crap out of it.

It just sucks that we are the poster for change.

This is how a head clash can occur accidentally from a defensive play that is legitimately an accident and not due to a reckless tackle. Finucane bends and lowers his body for good contact, however, Pole fends, raises Finucane's head and simultaneously Pole lowers into an awkward position for both players. Finucane shows duty of care, no penalty, correct decision by refs.

They went from duty of care is on the defender to completely being okay with this one, which result in one of the main attractions in the NRL being out for 4-6 weeks.

The next time it happens, it will be a book job. That does nothing for us though.

When you ask blokes with too many head-knocks their opinion on avoiding head-knocks for others they tend to only think about themselves.

This cooked take here will catch on with the average NRL fan because they're incapable of thinking for themselves.

Honestly this whole "it was an accident" argument that's always used whenever something like this happens shits me to tears.

No player goes out on that field with the intention to hurt another player and cause injury. None. May didn't have the intention to hurt Walsh. He shot out of the line to shut down the play because of the threat Walsh poses, he just got his timing wrong and it all went wrong. It doesn't change the fact that it was careless.

"It was an accident, he didn't mean to do it, he was just making a tackle". It. Does. Not. Fucking. Matter.

Wait until it happens to Nathan Cleary, we'll hear a few interesting takes at that point in time.

A broncos player will get binned first if the bunker / refs crack down on similar head high contact, similar to how Patty and Hass were binned/charged first during the crackdown for hip drops (call me cynical .....)
That is exactly what will happen. We are the trendsetter, never get the benefit of it at the time and always cop it afterwards
