2010 Lineup

I think he's too one dimensional to be a modern day fullback. He lacks the ball skills and if he is going to find a spot in first grade it will be on the wing where he can play to his strength - his finishing. To be honest, on here I can't tell the difference between those who genuinely rate him or those that just hoped on the bandwagon. IMO Beale and Hoffman are much more well rounded and are long term options. Kemp would be a stopgap. I'd be extremely surprised if one of Beale or Hoffman weren't our starting fullback come round 1.

But all fullbacks start as Finishers and learn the Ball playing skills over time. All Hunt was when he started was a finisher, Over time playing alongside Lockyer he learnt the Ball playing skills that he had when he left.

Its the same with Kemp, Play him at fullback now and let him learn the ball playing skills from Lockyer/Wallace over the next 2yrs. Combine that with his finishing skills and speed he has now and we have a Future Superstar.

Problem is everyone is expecting results right now, not prepared to wait it out and let a player grow. You want a modern day fullback go and buy one who has been in that role for 3yrs. A ball playing fullback comes with Experience.

Someone wanna give me some info on this Hala bloke btw? I haven't heard a thing about him.

He was one of the best and most consistent in the under 20's last year. Earned a game in the top grade against the Raiders in Canberra, but that game is best forgotten!!!

If he doesn't play for the Broncos this year he will be in Dolphins colours.

The Canberra game was one of the few I missed last year (thank god) so no wonder I missed him. Hopefully he comes good for us.

no one can tell me that Slater is anything more than a finisher (and hole runner) the same as Kemp... everytime Slater attempts to pass the ball it ends up in the grandstand

It's almost a prerequisite that your fullback be a 2nd 5/8 today. The majority of fullbacks coming through the grades are showing some ball playing ability, Beale is one of them. Why manufacture one when we already have several in the wings? The fact of the matter is it is nearly becoming a staple skill of the position. Just as the dummyhalf underwent a transformation in the 90's so too has the fullback in the 00's. You can always go with a pure finisher ala the old days, but unless they are an exceptional talent ie Slater and Stuart than IMO your team will be poorer for it.

It wouldn't take him long to reach Slater's ball playing ability, if he hasn't already yet. His speed will make it look better than it actually is anyway.

1. Josh Hoffman
2. Jharal Yow Yeh/Antonio Winterstein/
3. Alex Glenn
4. Justin Hodges
5. Israel Folau
6. Darren Lockyer (c)
7. Peter Wallace
8. Nick Kenny
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Scott Anderson
11. Ashton Sims
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker

Interchange:
14. Lagi Setu
15. Ben Te'o
16. Josh McGuire
17. David Hala/whatever other props we have

Re Folau - I'm still unsure about him playing left centre. He had a lot of defensive issues out there late in the season. However, he does have issues as a right hand centre as well. I would prefer him playing outside Hodges and swapping throughout the game. They were pretty effective as as a combination early last year.

I like the idea of playing Glenn in the centers but I think he's better in the back row. Plus I don't think Winterstein or Yow Yeh deserve to be dropped after the end of last year. I hope Folau is getting a boot up his arse regarding defence in training at the moment. IMO there is no reason why he can't excel in that department.

^^^ if you want to move Folau back to the wing, my backline would be.

1. Beale/Hoffman/Kemp
2. Yow Yeh
3. Winterstein
4. Hodges
5. Folau

Glenn to play back row and fill in at centers if we get an injury there

I'd go a little change up.

1. Hodges
2. Yow Yeh
3. Winterstein
4. Folau
5. Kemp

I think it's worth trying out Winterstein in the centres. He's got good accelaration and with a bit of room to move I think he would be good at getting around his opposite number, drawing the winger and putting Kemp away down the left, shut the gate. Defence is the question obviously but I think it's worth a shot.

IMO Hodges should stay at center. We should be either using Kemp there or a young fella.

Winterstein was originally a centre, wasn't he?

Yow Yeh needs to play outside Hodges as long as possible imo. His learning alot outside him.

Hodges is our main strike weapon at times. Doesn't make sense to weaken one position to strengthen another - especially out on the right flank where Hodges does cause some headaches. He's in and out of consistency lately but still a good player to go to for some attack.
