2016 Dally M Awards Thread

I don't get why they don't just make the team of the year who gets the highest amount of points in each position?

Makes the the most sense to me.

Ricky Stuart coach of the year? You see why these awards can't be taken seriously?

Because 3 points in a Newcastle v Roosters game is completely different to 3 points in a Broncos v Cowboys game.

I'm actually fine with Ricky Stuart as Coach of the Year, albeit Neil Henry would have been the safe choice.

However, if you consider where the Raiders were at heading into 2015 and the fact they finished second, it's well deserved.

Rapana robbed for winger of the year, no way Mansour was better this year

Edit:

Rapana - 23 tries, 26 linebreaks, 20 offloads, 7 try assists.
Mansour - 16 tries, 22 linebreaks, 19 offloads, 2 try assists.

No contest.

Yeah I get that, but the way they pick the team of the year defeats the purpose of the points doesn't it?

In my books, Milford was robbed of the five-eight spot. I am biased but the stats back me up, he had the most points in that position and we had probably one of the harder draws this year.

Agree. Do not know how they came to the conclusion they did.

Taumololo and Cronk are the joint dally m winners. I'm happy with that at least they didn't pick Thurston.

The amount of points a player scores doesn't necessarily show how good a player was/is.

True unless he is stepping and running 50/90m runs every game he could just be in support always

I thought ponga was going to get NYC player of the year, or Gideon

Croker was robbed of centre of the year it went to BJ leilua instead. Leilua is a good player but I feel Croker was the far better of the two. Leilua is a hot and cold combo. Can come up with some great stuff but stupid stuff at the same time.

No.

The point system asks who the best three players were on the park, it doesn't determine who the best fullback, wing, centre etc. were.

Milford wasn't that great this year and still isn't the best five-eighth in the competition. Once he decides to grow up, he maybe in with a shot.

That's true, but it also feels like Raiders only went well when Blowjob and Rapana were firing.

I take your point.

I would personally like to see some time in the future the team just chosen for the person who gets the most points in each position.

It may not always be 100% correct but it just simplifies the whole thing.

Doesn't RLW give every player a score out of ten every week anyway?

If we're going to say that arbitrary points systems invented and awarded by journalists are a measure of how relatively good players are, isn't that the better number to use?

The 3-2-1 system is really only accurate within a club.

Common sense and more accurate systems you say? Three letters for you that are an antonym for this: N-R-L.
