He limped off with five to go. Dragan was about 15 to go. Norths were done- losing halves made no difference.
Fittler has called for seibold to give SoS the call up over Nikorima. Interesting coming from a former half and also the current winning coach of state of origin.
I would have to say I agree with him. SoS had a decent trial v the titans a few weeks back I thought. We need to significantly improve, especially with our 5th tackle option and in particular our kicking game.
How long do we keep persevering with niko as our 7, it hasn’t worked for the past 12 months, why is it all of a sudden going to change now?
He has the potential to be one of the best subs in the game. I think it’s a risk worth taking this early in the season.
Thanks for reply. What you think which grade he will play Hastings deering colts or intrust super cup? He's not playing any grade at the moment. Hasn't had a run yet this season.
Appreciate the run down!I watched Norths last night, he tried hard he was running at the line and threw a nice inside pass to Frei for Norths first try but then it all went to running and dummying. He crowded guys and just tried too much instead of working to a position on the field and using Ahearn out the back which is Norths big strength.
At one stage Norths are down and they get a penalty about half away, he dummies probably 6 times throws a pass to himself Carlos Spencer style, runs at 45 degrees and throws the pass behind Getamat goes in to touch.
To me, that summed it up at this stage, i was hoping to see him work to a position have a plan use Ahearn get a repeat set, target spot defenders work down the field and end up scoring or repeat set.
First game with Norths so bit of confusion sure, but that is when you just go back to kicking well, passing well and getting them to a spot.
We can easily kill two birds here. New half and Kodi to bench to put a rocket up Macca. I’m a broken record but Kodi is a fantastic relief 9 and he should always play it. It worked before he became the halfback. A small quick guy like him running around tiring forwards. Give Deardon or SoS the spot and say you’ve got 4-6 weeks for us to show marked improvement in how we play, not necessarily if we win or not
The concern with that is Macca already plays 80 whether you agree or not... so bringing a half/hooker as your utility loses the ability to replace an outside back... unless they think Fifi is good enough to cover the backs. Is there any chance of us bringing dearden (or similar) onto the bench this weekend..Staggs into starting centre with no Roberts and let him take Staggs spot on the bench. Use him for 15mins in each half. Rotate Macca with niko and let Macca have a breather and allow a 7 to try his hand.

I don't think Dearden can play NRL this year because he isn't 19 until next year. AFAIK you have to you have to turn 19 in the same year before you can play.
That can't be the case because David Fifita debuted last year as an 18-year old born in the year 2000.
believe you have to be 18.Good point BP. I have been trying to track a current reference for the age rule for a couple of weeks and all I could find was a proposal put forward by Shane Richardson in 2015/16 but no confirmation.
I'm pretty sure I heard on the 4BC morning sports show someone mention Dearden couldn't play for age reasons which is why I went looking in the first place.
Both Friend and Luke outweigh him by 10kg and that's a massive amount. Those guys can get knocked out of the way and Niko would provide even less resistance. Unless he steps up and becomes a very good halfback there'll be no place for him in the team. Here's a couple more to show that he should be able to learn to defend in the middle:
Jake Friend:
Height:
175 cm
Weight:
92 kg
Age:
29
Date of Birth:
01 February 1990
Issac Luke
Height:
175 cm
Weight:
93 kg
Age:
31
Date of Birth:
29 May 1987
I'd say it's time to send Kodi to Gilmeisters school for tracking then promote one of our many talented young halves to the starting side .
