2019 Origin Discussion

I'm surprised I didn't make a freudian slip here.

Thinking back on past Origin series, there's definitely been a few that weren't as engaging as others.

In 2010 the Blues were a dogs breakfast and there was that infamous lead-up to Game II where Tahu walked out on the team after Joey's bone-headed pep talk to Beau Scott. It truly felt like we were watching NSW at their lowest ebb as Queensland completed their first clean sweep since 1995.

2013 started off as a tantalising series coming off of the dramatics of 2012 and a few sneaky behind the scenes ploys from NSW. Then the series all fell apart when Gallen clocked Nate Myles and was allowed to stay on the field. If Gallen had have been sin binned, the biff would have lasted longer and it would have given the NRL time to come up with a better rule.

Instead they bowed to public pressure, put together a mandatory penalty which are always flawed and the series turned into a farce in Game II. Tate got binned for getting rabbit punched and I think Bird got binned for being Greg Bird. The Blues kept losing players through out the series, the result became more predictible and the streaker ruining the last 5 minutes of the series summed it up.

I can barely remember anything about 2016, except the Blues didn't put up much of a fight and Game III was an old fashioned stitch up. I used to get really fired up about one-sided refereeing, but in that case, I just felt embarrassed.

That was Gallen's farewell? One of the worst performances I've ever seen from a ref. Or is it one of the best?

Anyone else think Matt gillet looks like prince oberyn?

I don't get where the stateriotism is going with some of you guys.

QUEENSLANDER !!!!

Yay??

I don't know, just not feeling it. Like, if Qld lose tomorrow night, I'll just move right on, without a second thought. I think part of it is being so far from the core in Aus, no one around me cares about it obviously, so hard to talk about it with anyone other than on here.

QLD dominating for 10 years kinda killed it for me a bit. It's sort of similar with Australia dominating in the International stage, except I definitely don't give a shit if Australia wins anymore, while I'm still happy if QLD wins. Maybe it'll change again once NSW gets a few series in a row, it'll make it more desperate again.
Or it could also be the soulless presentation and hype around it, it all feels very artificial compared to years ago. I used to watch the pre-game stuff all the time and get fully into it. Now I just wait until the kick off time at 8:05 (more like 8:20 now) before settling in front of the TV.

Am exactly the same. Pre-game has become an unashamed wank-fest about whichever players are the flavour of the month.

If that's true and he can get his eligibility reversed, I rate QLD's chances next year.

They really should have won this year but they blew it.

But I just can't see it happening. It's already been reviewed and the original decision was upheld. While Keary played most of his junior footy in QLD, he moved to Sydney when he was 10 so they will go by where he played his last junior footy.

If you add Keary, Ponga, Arrow and Friend in things start to look good. Plus Munster to centre to sure up a big weakness.

I'd actually feel quite decent with this 17, we desperately need some centres to stand up though.

We are really low on centers performing at NRL level.

If Holmes comes back, I think we can try him in the centres. If not him, then I guess we gotta go with Gagai. We just can't go with Mbye and Chambers again.

At the moment, i can only really see Hunt and Opacic getting regular games at center over the next year in the centers for their clubs. Seve i think will more than likely be in and out at Melbourne.

A game will be played at Adelaide Oval next year.

Terrible venue choice.

Adelaide Oval is awful as a league venue, but I'll be there :)
