i've never seen so many unforced changes to a team that only lost by 6 points.

I realise teams have had mass changes in the past, but that has been in response big injury tolls or 30 point losses ... not a close contest that was literally in the balance until the final second

They had a similar reaction back in 2019 and went onto win by 32.

They dropped Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Angus Crichton, Nick Cotric & Josh Morris. On top of that they lost Klemmer and Haas to injury as well. Then in a stroke of luck, they were originally going to go with a Pearce/Cleary combination until Pearce got injured the day of the announcement. So they rushed Maloney in and he was close to the best player on the field.

JAC likely didn't get picked because he's not a winger who can make many PCM, that seems to be the main argument about his effectiveness...but I can't remember him ever being driven back in Origin, he always managed to find space or space created for him and his early sets often were even more effective.

It honestly looks like he just didn't pick him because he didn't want to be called out on how wrong he was for not having him in Game 1, there was situations where QLD where saved because Holmes had more speed then anyone NSW had.
