2023 State of Origin Discussion

I'll make a NSW team for game 3 based purely on being based in QLD so they have a close proximity to people who understand Origin:

1. Drinkwater
2. Kelly
3. Staggs
4. Aitken
5. Jennings
6. Katoa
7. Reynolds
8. Mclean
9. Robson
10. Haas
11. Leilua
12. Stimson
13. Stone

14. Verrills
15. Nicholls
16. Jolliffe
17. Townsend

18. O'Sullivan(if he played more probably swap him with Townsend)

Not including players who are signed to non QLD teams who played in Qcup this year.
Stone is probably a good shout for one of those NSW guys that will never be considered, but Qld would pick him and he'd do a job for us

They need more threats with the ball, and more "Origin" style players. Drinky at the back isn't a bad shout but Latrell is a shoe-in if fit IMO, Teddy's time is done.

Crighton can probably stay, he's not been bad for them. Get Campbell Graham in like they always should have. Cody Walker in for Luai without a doubt. Moses has done enough to keep his spot. Surely there's better than Paulo, he's been underwhelming.

Haas keeps his spot and I think the Robson/Cook duo is the way to go. Murray to 13, Yeo off the bench. Martin probably deserves one 2nd row spot, not sure on the other but Young isn't it. The bench needs work but I just don't care enough to throw some names together.

The melting down is glorious.

Would have been interesting to see how this series went if Latrell and Turbo were fit.

NSW attack has been very ordinary.

If they were both fit and in form, the obvious option to me is to select Mitchell at centre and TTrbo at fullback but to swap them in good ball so Tom can do all the tough stuff and Mitchell can use his silky hands and explosiveness inside the attacking zone. It will remove the tactic of tiring Trell out with a kicking game and will reduce the metres he has to cover.

Will also be a surprise the first game you do it so Billy won’t really be able to plan for it

Also Murray should start at 13. Koloamatnagi and Graham both in the team. Walker at 6 would’nt even be a bad shout.

1. Trbo
2. Fox
3. Mitchell
4. Graham
5. To’o
6. Walker
7. Cleary
8. RCG
9. Robson
10. Haas
11. Koloamtangi
12. Martin
13. Murray (C)

14. Burton
15. Paulo
16. Yeo
17. TPJ/Jrbo

Fixed that for ya Santy .

But the fatal flaw in this very good argument is the guys who would need to come up with it. Fittler and co aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.

Well there's that and the chances of either being fit at Origin time
are slim to none.

The NSWRL board are reportedly considering appointing a "coaching director" to assist Fittler instead of sacking him (although that option is still on the table)

The man that the NSWRL board are considering making their coaching director is Brian Smith.

the one thing the NSWRL board have ruled out is appoint a current NRL coach to be the Origin coach
