NRL are considering bench changes for injuries. They just haven't really decided what it's going to look like.

Seem to be two options so far, a 6 man bench with the club choosing which 4 players to activate or the 18th man being brought in for anyone that suffers a match-ending injury.

Personally I would go for the 6 man bench.

6 man bench could work but it changes the game a bit too much for me. A 5 man bench would be ideal as most clubs will have a utility back on the bench. It’ll be SuperCoach chaos though

It would take a bit of working out. Back in the day, you’d have guys from reserve grade backing up. But now they often don’t play on the same day/venue. Not sure if Souths Logan would like us taking Sailor to Sydney with us when we only plan to use him if there are injuries and as a result he can’t make it back in time for their game.

I'm ok with either... however they do need to consider the ones for foul play.

Val got binned last night (incorrectly), but it meant tigers could activate their 18th man straight away... there still needs to be something if a team is disadvantaged due to foul play

This is actually a rule change that I can get behind.

I'd probably go with a 6 man bench (get rid of the 18th man altogether).

Under normal circumstances, only the first 4 players that take the field should be permitted to play. with the remaining two players only permitted to take the field in the event of foul play, ruling a player out of the match.

Cody Ramsay back training with the Dragons squad after being out for 18 months.

He's still a long long way away from playing. He has lost a lot of weight and physically can't play NRL at the moment, but being back at training and the determination he has to get back playing NRL, it's great to see.

Doctors said he'll never play NRL again but hopefully he'll be back in the future.

I saw video of him this morning training. He looks extremely sick still. Be a great story to even make it back to reserve grade the way he looks now. Credit to the kid for fighting through it all.

Totally agree. He likely won't ever get back, kind of like Jharal Yow Yeh but like in his case, I think all fans are behind Ramsay, just happy to see him keep on fighting, good on him.

Panthers applying for cap relief for May given he's unlikely to play again this season.

IIRC they gave Dragons cap relief for De Belin so I don't see how they could not approve it.

Keep the 4 man bench with the 18th who can only be introduced into the game in the event that one of your players is ruled out of the game completely, for whatever reason. I say whatever reason because it’s such a huge blow when teams lose a centre in particular and don’t come into the game with any sort of plan B in that situation, Bulldogs just last week were scoring for fun down that edge.

The can of worms will be when coaches pick their 18th man as a specialist in some capacity, maybe an elite defender who can’t attack very well? They’ve done themselves no favours over the years, now the NRL probably has to look over every rule change with a fine toothed comb to make sure it can’t be exploited.

I saw a suggestion somewhere that the player subbed out can't play the following week... so that would cover HIA's pretty well and usually if someone gets injured during the game they aren't typically playing within the next week or so.

That would hopefully stop it being exploited too much.

They have to do something though, because we're heading into origin and then the backend of the year, finals, etc.

You'd hate to see a finals game or GF ruined because a player gets HIA'd in the first tackle or early on
