besides ... it sounds like buying this particular club would be no better than emptying their bank account into the middle of Lang Park and lighting a match.

they'd be better off buying (or starting up) a QLD Cup club

Like a way of pooling up some English talent with a clear path for those that have potential to the nrl. That's without even putting much thought into what benefits could be realised if our club owned a superleague club in the proffessional era

firstly, if you were going to spend millions buying an English rugby league club, it would need to be successful , therefore you're unlikely going to pilfer their players. as a publicly traded company on the ASX there are certain legal obligations that we have (that a private company doesn't have to worry about).

Secondly, even in the event we decided to waste money on a club to possible help recruit English players (there are cheaper ways to do this), we're not going to choose a club that just finished with the wooden spoon in the second level comp and have just relegated down to the third level comp.

and lastly, if there was a player that we actually wanted we could simply negotiate a transfer fee with their club. doesn't seem like that is included in the salary cap.

Not every player would want to make the switch there is still free will you know,second tier comp is what they were relegated to btw.if the nrl want to grow the international game there would imo have to be some investment from them think it was even reported at the start of last year they were looking at investing in the ESL and its my opinion that it is short sighted not to jump on this while it is cheap £900k if i read correct plenty of opportunity for growth.

Is this a joke ?? the guy comes over here as fast as his bulky frame will carry him, wins a premiership, collapses in tears at the final whistle, learns the rudiments of coaching from WB then pisses off back to the old dart and gets himself a gig as a "Super" League coach, then starts whining about the NRL poaching English players ... the hypocrisy is mind-numbing and here's a thought Sammy ... having Poms come over here and learn their trade is only way you're gonna cobble together a side that might come within coooeee of beating the Roos. I need a drink!!
