2025 NRL General Discussion Thread

DCE apparently leaving Manly at the end of the year. Down to the bottom 4 they go. Hopefully Bellamy retires as well so we can see the storm join them in the bottom half of the comp.

Charlie Gallico aka Reggie The Rabbit said the reason he pushed the kid was because the kid grabbed him.

Makes sense.

With the announcement of a new 63,000 seat stadium at Victoria Park, Vlandys is trying to put pressure on the QLD Government to upgrade Lang Park claiming the future of Magic Round and a possible NRL Grand Final is at risk if they don't.

I'm not sure how much longer he can keep using a possible QLD GF as an incentive to do what he wants ... If anyone ever did believe that we could get a GF up here, they certainly no longer do.

Anyways Vlandys said

We will be welcoming an announcement as surely the Queensland government won’t forget the most watched sport in Australia,”

“One of Queensland’s major events is Magic Round.

“For Queensland to retain Magic Round, and have any chance of having a grand final, that is all contingent on Suncorp Stadium also getting a major upgrade.

“We have no problem with other sports receiving funding for stadiums but don’t forget the No. 1 sport in Australia.

“Rugby league has to be given the same opportunity.”

Is the 60K the stadiums maximum capacity for the games or after? I seem to remember Olympic stadium in Sydney was like 110K or something but they built it with the idea that they would reduce the seating down to the 90K or whatever it is now. A 60K stadium hardly seems worth it tbh.

I believe 63k is the permanent capacity. They were talking to big wigs from the lions and QLD cricket who are over the moon at the announcement.

P.s. 63k is roughly double the current capacity of the Gabba and about 15 - 20k bigger than the Gabba redevelopment would have been.

I'm undecided of it's value myself until I see how they work out transport etc ...

The reporting is that the design will be similar to the MCG precinct that incorporates plenty of green space around the stadium. Supposedly the new stadium will occupy only about 10% of the current Victoria Park green space

Yeah, I get that it's bigger than the Gabba etc but go big or go home right?

Aren't they building a bunch of apartments there for the athletes? Or am I thinking about what's going in when they knock down the Gabba?
