2025 Pre-season discussion. Training the house down.

So are you just going to paper over the fact that he has tried to leave multiple times mid contract even going as far as to request his release mid year and cause a major disruption to our season that year? And a stable relationship with a kid of his own? Do you realise that when he had that run in with the female cop he was with his pregnant girlfriend at the time? Hardly a role model if you ask me.
Show me a bloke at 24 with all the fame and money one could hope for at that age, with his upbringing, with what has happened to his parents, with his ability to find his way towards on the nose actions (despite being pretty mild for footy players) and yet at the age of 24 your going home to your partner with a young child of your own and looking after your 2 younger brothers like they are your own whilst expecting another. I have a million times more respect for that man than anybody else in our squad. He is beyond impressive. The load he has taken on at such a young age and yet still performs week in week out. Genuinely so impressed with that man, if he were my son I would be immensely proud.

Pats impressive as well but he doesn’t compare to Payne. I think we would be in a really good place if Payne ended up captain. I genuinely mean that. So impressive that he can be the rock to so many people when everyone in his life has created an environment where it would be very reasonable to expect significantly less than what he has done. Incredible young man.

Not that Trump esque really .
There was talk of him playing #6 a cpl of seasons back . He also played in the halves for Tonga ?
Staggs to 5/8 talk has been around before......

Sometimes. Some days he does the three hour round trip. Well did, he retired.

Even so, players living on the coast or not will hardly make a difference to winning a comp or not. This is such a non-factor.

You also need to make a club a positive environment, not a permanent boot camp where the game is your complete life. We don't live in the 80s anymore.

Has what we've been doing ......been working?

I'm all in for some changes. No idea where......but one thing I'm sure of is the soft ***** in the team, are out numbering the rest.

**** I hope not. He is a dumbass and has pulled way to much shit in the past to be able to trust him with a key position at the club. I would like our captain to be intelligent and show proper leadership qualities. Patty fits that mould and should be the next captain end of story. There is no one else at the club besides Reynolds who could hold a candle to him in regards to captaincy.
As much as I love Pat......the troops have not responded to his captaincy.

Penrith have juniors that come through, you guessed it, Penrith. Melbourne has...well...Melbourne as the only club in the same area. This is very different to Brisbane now.

And I'm pretty sure if you looked into it enough, you'd find a number of Melbourne Storm players who also lived an hour or so from the club as almost everywhere liveable in Melbourne is an hour from Richmond. Who knows, some probably even live in Geelong or Bayside.

I hardly think you are going to win any argument saying Melbourne an Penrith are successful because they all live in the city. It probably isn't even completely true but I have no idea how to find out where players lived in Melbourne while playing and same as Penrith.

And if players, etc want to catch up on the weekend, are the ones who live in Brisbane not allowed to travel to Gold Coast sometimes as well? Sounding really Draconian here.

You’re obviously not a fan of marginal gains or Dave Brailsford.

In a professional sport where everyone is fit, strong and skilful the exact advantage you’re looking for is small and social/cultural or organisational.

So you are literally saying the reason Brisbane lost the 2023 GF was because...a couple of players live on the Coast. Ridiculous.

Yes 100% it’s mind boggling the way you’ve understood this with such insight and clarity.

Well explain to me how two of our best players on the night, Carrigan and Arthars were disadvantaging the team by living on the Gold Coast.

Its going to be a long wait until those first trial games but hopefully a team with high intensity and energy, good line speed, disciplined and full of effort is what we see. I'd love for us to be performing in those 1% areas and be rock hard fit as opposed to flashy plays and individual brilliance.

Mate, the amount of times I screamed at the TV about our line speed last year. They gave away a free 10m every run.

I would say it's more at looking at little things that may improve the team in the long run rather than it being the reason.

I get it but telling your players where they have to live is stupid. I'm fine with not cutting things short so they can skip the traffic, that's common sense but to tell them you have to live within X kilometre radius is just old man thinking.

And let's be honest, Brisbane is honestly not that big a city, traffic isn't really that big of an issue compared to so many other cities around the world.
