Thank god. Competition for spots is all we ask for. No one should be safe and the best players should be selected for each position.

Madge seemed to like his centres working both sides of the field and linking up in 2014.
With Walker and Auva'a and the speed of Johnson on the wing.
There was even tries where Johnson was running inside balls through the middle with Inglis still at fullback.
Different game since 2014 but it will be interesting how he works the outside backs next season.

Could work, both Staggs and Cobbo have done that in past seasons.

Wouldn't trust Mariner with it though if he is Centre.

I assumed that would be the norm at most footy clubs. Any team I remember from about the age of 10 that's how it always was. Although if the reports on Kevvie rewarding players with extra days off for returning to training at a reasonable weight and early marks so the Gold Coast boys can beat the traffic, maybe it wasn't.

When asked a question about him he did. I didn't get excited and I'm as bigger Billy basher as any. The more interesting quotes were a month or so back when he put in a big word for mozer, saying he was the most impressive in the pre season so far, or words to that effect.

Signing the reigning QLD hooker doesn't change that he was in the conversation as the best option at hooker last year. He obviously isn't now and doesn't have the bench impact or ability to improve from the bench that Mozer has. Billy Walters was a better hooker than Mozer last year because he was too young, he was a better hooker than QLD Cup hooker Paix whose only claim is he's a little bit faster than him and he was a better hooker than Tyson Smoothy in 2024.

The same thing would have happened in 2024 had we signed Hunt then and he wanted to play hooker.

Is it though? The proof, at least for me, would have been what happened this year if Kev was still coach. Mozer as good as he looked last season in his stints, was nowhere near ready to be "the guy"...I doubt he will be this year either. However I fully expect him to be getting the most minutes of him and whoever partners him in the 9/14 role. Maybe not at first but definitely by the end of the season. Billy's utility value would have seen him get the nod over Smoothy for mine. That said I'm definitely in the camp of something happening between Kev and Paix to see him basically black listed. I don't think he even played a game did he? Paix from memory was a half coming through, so definite utility value to rival Billy.

The stupid thing with it is he signed a 2yr extension and then a couple months later he gets relegated back to qcup... what the **** was the point of re-signing him just to relegate him and try to get the cap space back.
