2025 Pre-season discussion. Training the house down.

Why isn’t he going?

When I say short term, I mean this year. If they are unlikely to be required or ready for NRL this year, they are being pushed back in favour of some journeymen. Not even NRL journeymen, just older players from cup who could hold the fort for a game or 2.

Just has me worried for the development side of things. If 2025 is a bust, the younger players will be no more ready in 2026 as they were for this year, their development is being stalled.

Not even necessarily Maguires fault, it's the task he's been given.

Who is going on the camp and who is not ?

It would seem like Maguire has been tasked with creating immediate results. Which may be at the expense of development. Some of the younger players have been pushed back a bit further while some older depth players are getting a run. One example being Leota, who is in the top 30 but will not be going on this camp.
Are they only taking a certain amount of players on camp or did Leota lose his spot to Hopoate?

That`s what I was wondering .
Hopoate was best winger in Q Cup last year ? I read he was impressing Madge .

Leota needs more time by the reports I hear . But I hear what you are saying Morkel Morkel . Maybe he`s Karmicheal`s project for the time being ?

Kaho for Norths.

Of the Broncos contingent, Philitoga for Easts made a bigger impact despite playing half the games.

Still, Hoppa is like a chip off the block in terms of his style of play. If Madge is just looking for a Jordan Pereira type of player, Hoppa fits that bill.

At the risk of coming across as a sycophant, I doubt any coach would purposefully hinder a player's development. I'd say at this stage Leota isn't ready for the police camp and will be working on other areas to improve his game.

Found the quote I couldn`t remember the details of .
Sione won Wynnum Manly’s player of the year award in 2024 in Queensland Cup.

I knew he was the best some where . LOL .

Philitoga is also on a train and trial isn’t he? I wonder what the wing pecking order is at the club behind Cobbo and Arthars. Is it Trew? Hoeter? One of these train and trial blokes? Leota?

Last Time I went to The Broncos trial match in Toowoomba they had a mix of The Newbies and the regular squad. Like Oatesy and Sammy Thiday. Also it was our last season with Wayne Bennett

Last time we won a grand final I was giving shit to wogboy on the sidhe forums about the storm and blasting rugby league 2. Might have to see if the forum is still alive and dust off the ps2. Could be the superstitious thing we need to bounce back.

- Old boys have reached out
- Have focused on leadership in the preseason
- Reynolds likely to be captain
- Loves the progression in players he has had things to do with here and there over the years, including Billy
- Players are aware there are limited positions in the side, breeds competition - all 5 hookers bring something different but not all can play
- Spoke about learning from Hunt about the 9 position
- Has been impressed with even guys like Arthars
- He sees Selwyn as a winger, one of the most important positions on the field these days and Cobbo has all the attributes to excel there
- He has learned not to be stubborn, he was when he first started coaching
- He feels the city has embraced him despite being the NSW coach
- He loves the passion of the fans in Brissy
- He doesn't care who they play or how difficult the first 9 weeks might be, need to be ready against everyone

I find it interesting that Madge's last team non state of origin team is the west tigers thanks mum. Well the Tigers are back to back to back wooden spooners

The thing that annoys me most about Billy Walters is his dummy half play. He either runs a bit or starts to step up before he passes the ball. He doesn't pass the ball from the ground and that gives the defence time to move up and less time for the halves to get our back plays time to move. It may be only a second or two but it still hurts us.

We are very well aware of your feelings toward Billy, you don't need to state it for the 3567th time.
