They had a lot of problems executing last year .
Re the 2nd rower helping the #6 .
That`s what block plays are about . Keeping the inside defenders busy . While the halves get isolated .

And could you imagine being the half trying to defend him? At minimum he would force a legs tackle, leaving his arms free for an offload.

It's not the "squad" more than it is what can you do with it.
Need i remind everyone Brisbane had one of the worst defensive records in the league last season, and one of the worst yardage in metres gained per match. Can anyone find a team that turned both of those around to be one of the leagues best in just 26 rounds of football?
That will take time. Is Madge the guy to do it? He's been away from this level of football for a while, has the game passed him by? Dunno, but it's a legit concern.
We have some vital spine players here that are on the wrong side of the aging curve. We have too many fucking hookers - again!
Do not make the mistake of simply thinking the roster "looks' like a top 8 side. It did last season too...until it didnt.
We need to turn the above statistics around. The yardage game today now starts with your outside backs, not simply the forwards. With no Oates, Cobbo and Staggs and co "really" need to lift their game in this regard...

Which, incidentally, is why i like Kobe as a potential breakout player here.
Good defensively, wins the ruck, slows the play the ball down due to his tackling technique.
If you are trying to turn our defensive stats around from last year - makes perfect sense to start that process like this.

- Done a lot of work but have had a good look at all the players
- All players planning to play but injuries made it tough and go, credit to them getting back
- Everyone will get a go, no one will play the full game
- I'm looking at combos
- If you perform and do the things for the team to prove they want it, this is their chance
- Gosiewski is very physical, no what he's capable of and love what he brings
- Gehamat has a lot of experience, performed at training and worked really hard, he'll get his chance as a reward
- Middles and hooker look good together, this is their chance to cement their selections
- Our planned style will suit Patty at prop
- I've never had a VC, had a leadership group supporting the captain and that's what we've got
- Not Latrell Latrell has been impressive but has some things to work on an spoken to him about that but he's in the mix
- Feel really sad for Hayze but gives a chance to not Latrell Latrell
- Mariner is definitely in the mix but he needs to take defense seriously too which he is doing
- Same for Piakura
- No statements on what Teo brings - this was weird
- Really pleased with coaching group too
- Hunt hasn't really missed any games but Reynolds' injury history is way overstated
- They have both worked really hard to be fir and are, looking forward to them together

Yeah wtf that part was weird. Tin foil hat stuff, but maybe Ben has been focussing on the wrestle (which we've seen the trials), and Madge didn't want to feed any headlines. Or he just wasn't prepared for an answer so just said nothing haha

No...he hits hard and low, doesnt allow the runner to gain his front or poke through the ad-line. Obv. not 100% of the time but enough to make the difference...
