OFFICIAL 2025 State of Origin - Game I Discussion

Billy presser is apparently up, but I'm getting no audio 😒

Yea keep on it, Fittler. Calling QLDers soft ehh.

******* is referring to Pat btw.

“But speaking to Today show, Brad Fittler said the fact he is in doubt points to the Queenslanders being “a little bit soft”.

“I think Queenslanders are getting a little bit soft,” the NSW legend said on the Today show on Monday morning.

“If you remember, NSW blokes just get stapled on the field, stitch it up and keep playing,” referencing the famous Michael De Vere staple incident from 2003.”

Disagree with Cotter on an edge, really don't understand what Sua has done to not be there. Loiero on the bench is also kinda pointless, but matches the King selection for NSW, although King will almost definitely start.

Horsburgh is made for SOO.......someone with a bit of fire.
Too hot and cold.

Was in good form the last time he was picked and looked completely out of his depth. If he keeps working hard, he'll force his way in but I'm not sold on him.

Review last year's series.

Ask yourself whether he's improved and whether he's eliminated those mistakes out of his game.

Has Nanai eliminated his defensive flaws?

IMO, Sua has been the best backrower eligible for QLD over the last 18months.

He's improving in that area, he also brings other qualities that suit the Maroons. Better foot-work, better offload, better kick-chase.

Su'A had his opportunity and clearly didn't take it.
Improving? He got dropped to reserve grade 6 weeks ago because it was so poor.

I like the Toia selection. Been extremely impressed with him defensively. The front row depth is diabolical. Collins getting picked is laughable. Living off a few performances 3 years ago. Nanai is playing better than he ever has when he was picked so I guess. Fermor should do well but never been completely sold. Loreiro was playing great footy a year and a half ago but has not been as good since. Tino being back will make a massive difference. It will be a closer series than it should be on paper.

That was over two months ago and as JayPee pointed out, he's improved since returning to the side.

I still see room for improvement in Nanai's game. Unfortunately, I think Su'A has hit his apex and he's just too much of a liability.

Yeah I think Sua got found out pretty badly when he was brought into origin last year and it was kind of unanimous that he should be there if you're not going to pick Fifita.

I think his form has dropped this year compared to last year as well... he just doesn't look fit enough to stay in games at the moment.

If he's coming up against Crichton and Martin, then he needs to be getting himself up to a standard at NRL level that has him jumping off the team sheet and demanding selection, but to me he's just coasting through NRL at the moment and even his "coasting" form looks to be at his ceiling.

Dragons rely more on Luciano for impact than Sua... even Egan has been providing more impact and standing out in his rookie year more than Sua has this year.

I said elsewhere that I would love to see what a fit as **** Sua can do, because he drifts in and out of games, but has spent more time drifting out this year

It’s fairly grim reading. The whole makeup of the Forward Pack is just strange. Cotter on an Edge and a Bench full of Edge players is just weird. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets swapped on Game Day with one of the regular Edge players named on the Bench.

Toia is a bold pick, but one I do like. Can’t really argue with his form and with injuries elsewhere he quickly climbs the pecking order for selection. Cobbo has really bottled his chances with his form this year. If only Staggs was a Queenslander lol.

We’re going to miss the 1-2 punch of Hunt and Grant that’s been so fruitful for us all these years, but hopefully Dearden can give a good account of himself in that role.

If we’re going to be any hope at all we need to manufacture a miracle ambush at Lang Park, because a loss here is going to make it a very long series indeed.
