[2025 Trial] Broncos vs. Titans

Yeah I agree, Its pretty convincing, 80 minutes is 80 minutes. I reckon he has just belted himself in the last 12 months and got himself to an elite level of fitness. If that's the case, he deserves it. He's only 25 and whats to say he doesn't add some more utility to his game to be a genuine 14 for us with Mozer starting.

He showed it briefly in 2021, I thought today was his best game since 2021.

I always had this as his benchmark game.

He looked very similar today. 2021 was his first year at hooker and he scored seven tries in 10 Cup games.

He was a genuine attacking option but then he put it all away and never went back there again.

Sounds like a coaching issue. Can't have him looking too good if you know what I mean.

Paix was probably best on ground for me today. I really thought he looked a level above pretty much every player on the field. Almost like we were playing one of our Ferrari's. All of the shit talk aside I would be genuinely happy if he makes a career out of hooker for us. We need it and he probably deserves it.

The only thing I will say and for what its worth, there has never really been any doubt over his ability to play quick high octain attacking football, his downfall has always been his ability to play big minutes and defend under fatigue.

He only had to make 9 tackles today because we had the ball for almost his entire stint. We didn't really get a chance to see the worst parts of his game to see if it had improved. If I think back to games against the good teams (roosters were always good at targeting him) where we had high completion rates on both sides, Paix always looked as though he was playing catch up with his lungs. Has he grown the motor we need? I hope so. Hopefully we see a few more completions next week to see what's changed.
Sorry but you cant look to much into that game , the Titans were horrible, I give Paix his second try but the first one anyone could have scored , best on ground is a stretch he did nothing other than a barge over try which is about all he has , and a right place right time try , lets see how he goes under some fatigue against a decent team

Yes this exactly. He's like a jack in the box for the first 15-20, and then switches into flight mode. He has a nice little step that we rarely see from dummy half, but his service is utterly by numbers. Smoothy maybe has a bit more go-forward, but not much in the open space.

I was looking forward to seeing him break out in this game, but I barely noticed he was there. His dummy half service wasn't anything special. I thought he might be a possibility for Madge style 14, but he's going to need to prove that in the Cup.

Hands up who saw that coming? Not me.
My hands would of been swinging around the whole time he was on the field.

I've never see from Paix what I saw today. Like Sproj Sproj said, it was Berrigan-esque. Have a look at how many times he played the full 80 minutes in Cup:

Some of those times he was splitting it with Mozer, when they were both at Souths Logan... or was that only last year?

Probably the only detraction from that is they didn't really gel all that well as a pairing... maybe that was more about Paix wanting his first grade spot back and Mozer trying to learn his game

That was 23, they were together it was so clunky- Hunt would play Paix first 40 and then Mozer second 40 and it just didn't work being so black and white.

Souths win rate dropped to 50% with the two of them together.

Paix got moved again in 24 to Wynnum.

If Paix backs this up next week, Mozer isn't going to be walking into the 9 jersey.

The best take away was that they all seemed to be singing from the same hymn book. Both in attack and defence.

Everyone seemed to know their role, no matter their skill or experience - both in attack and defence. They were all talking, and looked like they knew where to be each ptb despite the shuffling,

Titans made it easy on them though.

Similar to last week. They're looking like a well coached team.

I must say I haven't seen a preseason trial ever from memory where we have shown up this cohesive and ready to go. What really struck me was there was not just one bloke shining out there. Most of our younger guys looked good, in fact everyone looked pretty good. Usually these things have a Cobbo or a Walsh type character who you are only there to see. This was something else and I must say I am here for it.

They'll have even more to prove next week. The Bulldogs won't be a pushover either. Some are saying this could be their year.
