[2025 Trial] Broncos vs. Titans

Played right side today .
Has played left previously . If thats the plan Jordies spot might be in the Q Cup ?
Looked fiitter and more focussed than last season .
You might be onto something... I thought all the second rowers looked better today than Riki did in the All Stars... might've been a difference in quality across the sides, but they're all first graders.

The energy coming from Gos, Piakura and Hunt was way higher than Riki... and their defence was solid enough.

I don't think Piakura is quite ready for 80mins week in week out, but Riki should be a little worried given how much he's stagnating compared to when he came in after Fifita signed with the tits and ran a great line for a runaway try

When Riki ran into the back field took on the full back and ran past him I thought David who ?
I like the kid`s personality . But , his game development has gone back wards some how . He`s got skills but refuses to use them . Frustrates me .

He's extremely frustrating.

Even if he does run a line I don't trust him to actually catch it... Gos ran a great line today and Madden put it on him for an almost try... I just can't see Riki being able to hold onto the ball that he did.

He's also athletic... 1910 has told us that he was playing in the outside backs when he first started... what I wouldn't give to see him get up there and compete on some of those kick chasers... could you imagine being a fullback and 110kg of Riki could be either targetting you with his shoulder or flying over you to take the bomb.

I also think we should be bringing the Gavin Cooper cross field kick into our repertoire with Riki being so athletic that he should be able to get up there and compete on cross field kicks on the goal line.

Instead his entire focus seems to be just making the tackle... not necessarily even aggression in defence either... just making the tackle... and then taking second tackle hit ups on kick off sets.

Not sure if it's the coaching at this point or something else going on with him that he's just not applying himself to what he could be

The best take away was that they all seemed to be singing from the same hymn book. Both in attack and defence.

Everyone seemed to know their role, no matter their skill or experience - both in attack and defence. They were all talking, and looked like they knew where to be each ptb despite the shuffling,

Titans made it easy on them though.

I thought Billy looked like a solid back up on the halves. Done himself proud there but today really highlighted again to me that he’s not my kind of hooker.

He tries his guts out. He just becomes such a focal part of the attack when he’s at hooker, when he doesn’t need to be, nor does he possess the skill to take on that level of responsibility.

Yep...it looked like he was playing outside the system, unlike Paix and Smoothy.

Running it when it wasn't really on, going for a 40/20, etc.

I think those things might have taken away from the good game he was having.

A hooker playing outside the system is why I think guys like Seggy and Levi moved around so much.

Halves and the backline expect to get the ball... they don't want it to be 50/50 on whether the hooker decides to take it into his own hands.

I thought the same, but I'd forgotten he's always been good, and sometimes even great, for about twenty minutes and then he goes into robot mode. If you recall back, the times he's looked good is when he did something 6-like out of hooker. But as the game went on you didn't see that again. His old man gave him more and more minutes last season and that really exposed him.

It's a bit of a conundrum: he's very ordinary at dummy half, lacking any of the creativity you occasionally see out of him at 6. But he doesn't have the concentration span to play 80 minutes in the halves.

Based on today's performance, I would expect round one to be: Paix at 9, Hunt at 6, Reynolds at 7 and Walters at 14. But it begs the question whether we'd be better with a different type of 14 if Billy can't bring any 6-like spark to the dummy half role.

We saw the contrast between the dummy halves today. Paix was a powerhouse. I did not expect that. Walters, Smoothy and Black, I don't know, none really did anything much beyond scoop and lob to first receiver. Paix was like a bulldog for the line.

Once Mozer returns I expect he'll go to 14, that's pretty simple. But when Mam returns one of Paix or Mozer will have to make way for Hunt. That will be another interesting contest because based on today, I think I'm favouring Paix.

Just watched the highlights-Titans score 2 twice due to Walters errors. First was not cleaning up the ball (even the ball bounced away as to avoid his dirty mitts) and the second he rushed out and read an incorrect play leading to a hole the size of where his brain should be.

The only broncos shirt I want to see from him this year is the official fan merch only.
