2026 NRL Player Movements & Rumours

Could you imagine the outrage and media shit Storm that would happen if a Broncos player, let alone the captain said something even remotely similar

Well Carrigan basically did.

People around here were blowing up when Patty was saying he loves the broncos but never say never.

Captain Yeo has just flagged half of penrith to the Chiefs lol

I didn't say you use social media to form your opinion, I said you sound like someone on social media who just says "Walsh is a show pony, he sucks" ... sorry if your comprehension is lacking.

Still waiting for an actual argument about why Luai is 'overrated'.
Was open to that, since it's a rugby league forum.

i.e. Why you think Sexton is a better signing for the Bears than this signing?
(highly doubt you are the majority there, but would love to hear your case)
What is Luai's actual current tier then? Considering the 6's going around in the NRL?
i.e. I said he isn't S-tier, but A-tier... so you consider him B-tier? C-tier? who are in these tiers?

I had a look at some team lists this week, I personally don't see many outstanding 6's going around at the moment?

Sounds like you either want to trade stupid barbs or can't come up with an objective argument.

If you actually want to talk rugba leeg, all ears... otherwise... all G

You do you man.
Nothing to do with Luai ..... I just can't wrap my head around a world where people use 's' as a higher rating than 'a' - madness!

Luai has obviously had a great career but I don't think the Tigers are that upset about losing him. If we were having this conversation a couple of years ago when Luai was at Penrith the tone would be slightly different but he hasn't played well for Wests.

He also had a horrible Game II for NSW last year so his stock is nowhere near as high.

The issue with Luai at the moment is that he's indecisive with the football to the point where his team mates don't know what he's doing. To his credit he played better against the Raiders last week and actually gave good early ball and reaped the benefits but he needs to make that a habit. As it stands, there's discussions whether the Tigers are better served with Madden in the halves over Luai.

Luai doesn't put fear into any footy team in terms of what he's doing on the field. When Luai wasn't there for the Tigers earlier in the season, they didn't miss a beat.

He's obviously good at setting standards at training and those sort of things though, which will be very valuable for a new franchise.

100% agree on the off-field stuff... the value of the 'off-field' is now bigger than ever... attracting players, the culture, etc.

in terms of 'fear' on the field, fair point... I just don't see that many outstanding 6's going around at the moment, he is still a strong get in this catergory.

I just think its a huge signing for the franchise.

on field results could be a disaster but I think its going to be big for branding, attracting players, modern social media, third party advertising etc.
His biggest ROI is probably going to be attracting other polynesian players tbh

I think its also a huge signing in regards to the players Luai is close with, that are also coming off contract.

It's already been said, but you really wouldn't be shocked in the slightest to see To'o, the 2 May brothers etc follow suit.

Does that mean .
If fullback money in Australia is 1 million minus tax = 5 -6 hundred thousand in pocket .
Do Hunters just pay the straight 5- 6 hundred thousand ? No tax ?

If that`s the case why put yourself through the hardship . Or will 3rd parties make it worth while ?
Nah my bad I misremembered the situation.

What it actually is, is that they can’t pay a player under market value just because it equals or beats market value due to the tax break.

So Payne Haas couldn’t go to PNG on 700k just because it close to matches his take home in Aus after tax. PNG would still need to pay him the $1m market value or whatever, Payne would just be far richer for getting it from the Cheifs

Its tax free dollars after asking some people i know who got the info from player agents. They get the same contract they would in Australia without giving money to the ATO. Chiefs get exactly the same cap as everyone else. They also get tax free third party deals outside the cap on top of their salary.

Im assuming this is because they are living in PNG and they are following PNG tax laws... which have been removed for NRL players.

It would be the same as wahs players... they get paid in NZ dollars and are subject to NZ tax laws.

If they spend too much time "living" in Australia then the ATO will come knocking... it would be political suicide for the federal government to allow NRL players playing for the Chiefs to be tax free from the ATO as well

Yes you did say I sounded like those people...
If it was incorrect to assume that you
Were putting me in the same basket.
My mistake.

May I suggest being more specific and clearer.

Eg. Not using the word sounds...
When obviously you can't hear what I sound like.....

What is this tier S .....crap...etc..
I don't use this system to rank players.

If you really want to list some examples of five eighths and their tiers that would be helpful...

Yes sometimes my comprehension is lacking...I have no problem admitting that.
I am not a self proclaimed professor
I was only a pro..........

Luai is overrated grub.!

NSW are a better team without him.

Panthers the same. Cleary made him look better than he is.
Yes he did cover and have a few wins.
However that was probably because of the Panthers systems.

Tigers.. well they have won more without him than with him.

There are more reasons which have been already written about by other BHQ members.

Feel free to read as much as you can.
You may change your conclusion about how everyone on social media feels about Walsh, Luai and other 5/8s.

Sexton is good no frills player that is very likeable does his job and is a hell of a lot cheaper.
He might not attract as much attention or certain other players... but he won't drive others away though.

Just off the top of my head
Burton.

What about Kyle Flanagan 🤔 he is a premiership winner 🏆.🙄

Will do.

Do player agents get their commission tax free to for any clients they have playing for the PNG Chiefs?

If they don't I have a sneaky suspicion they will increase their commission for those players to make it the equivalent of what they would get if it was tax free.

I definitely agree with the first part..
Not so much the last part.
Even if it's accurate.
I wouldn't spend top dollar on him.
I suppose beggars can't be choosers..

If he does help PNG Chiefs create a successful and sustainable club that's a plus for NRL.
I'll be happy for him and the club.

The 3rd May Tyrone is also off contract so it's a chance for all 3 to play together.

Wouldnt be shocked if To'o and Turuva follow Luai

Thats an interesting point. I doubt they would as the agents will still be Australian based.

Luai leaving not only gives the Tigers $$$'s to spend it removes a perceived road block for any up and coming talent in the lower grades. You'd hate to lose a promising half because they can't see a clear path to FG.
