2026 Pre-Season Discussion

Madge mentioned in an interview with the CM that he took the team on a pre Christmas army camp.

The team are also currently in Toowoomba on a two week intensive camp focused on game simulation, fitness, and football skills.

Walshy posted a video to his Snapchat of Ezra asleep on the floor, still in his training gear and shoes - didn't even make it to the bed. He was out of it.

I think they are getting absolutely flogged 😂.
They must’ve had a cracker of a day for him to knock out like that on the ground haha

At least he used his towel as a pillow 😂.

Walshy's commentary was, 'this is tired, tired' (he himself looked and sounded exhausted also).

Are Willy's arm, Walters and Piakura the only injury question marks we have going into the pre-season?
Piakura needs to spend his preseason unlearning whatever he's learnt to get himself knocked out every other game or he will be medically retired by the end of the season.

Billy will struggle to get his fitness up to our standard this season. We might see him towards the back end but he'll be doing well - or our roster won't be - to return by his estimate of round 16. Maybe if he's only playing minutes off the bench he might get a game, but hopefully, competition for that spot will be too strong.

Ironically, given his past value as a cheapie, I wonder if he might be better off not accepting whatever we can afford to extend him - not his market value probably - and have a shot at starting 6 at Perth or elsewhere. I'd like to see him at 6, not 9, and I really hope we won't need him there.

That all hinges on Mozer. If he takes off and Perth come knocking with a decent offer, Billy might take it. In our favor he seems very closeknit with the team. He may just choose to go for another ring before his career is done

Mozer has to nail down the 9, quickly and decisively, or he might also be shown the door. If he does live up to the years of hype, then at 14, we might be faced with a choice of giving Ben Hunt another season, or keeping Billy. I would probably lean towards Hunt, but it might come down to fitness.

I think Billy could get a bigger paycheck and a starting role elsewhere. He came a long way at the end of last season. He stands to undo that this year if he returns underdone.

You haven’t taken long to start having a go at Billy. A bit rough when he’s coming off a career year. It’s not his fault he got injured, he’d be a premiership winner right now if he hadn’t.

Not having a go at him in the slightest. The opposite. I'm saying he might've outgrown our salary cap, and might be able to get starting 6 at another club before the end of his career. That's the position he wants to play, and as good as he was at the end of last season, I can't see him getting it at the Broncos. Can you?

Also, he was evidently fit as **** last year. He's coming off a leg injury. That's a tough one on fitness. We can't expect him to return like that this season.

Most of the team played late into the year through rep footy. Can imagine it'll only take a solid month or two of training to get them up ready for round 1. Consideration for the club challenge in the UK but I reckon it'll be a glorified pre season hit out.

They can treat it like a preseason trial, but they wont have unlimited subs and extended bench.

So Reece will be playing 80, Reyno, Ezra, etc. will be playing 80... whereas last year they played 40mins in the last trial before round 1.

I feel like it's going to be a slow start to the year unfortunately

I sincerely hope Piaks isn't going to be one of those players who's career is cut short because of injuries/concussion, but I got the feeling that's exactly what is going to happen.
