Q-CUP 2026 Queensland Cup Discussion

Coates another Cup try, great put down while getting smashed.

Bears 26-4.

Hunters are in massive trouble, they are not a good football side at all.

Bryce another try, just support play but he is following Hamilton and knows chances come from that.

Bryce backs up Bradley and Hamilton and puts Coates over. Great support play by Bryce and great hands.

That's a great team 60m try.

Bears 40-4 FT

Francis from here is going to need some thought.

Meninga is done, NRLQ is on break for Meninga finals until the 16/05 so he has nothing for three weeks.

Bears are top of the table in Cup so they don't need him and his form doesn't deserve Cup anyway.

Not sure what to read into being benched yesterday, finals, you're the defending champions, you get a Bronco that won you the final last year and you don't think you need him for 17 minutes.

Four Meninga games and three NRLQ games hasn't been a big season.

Haven’t had to much of a chance to watch Francis this season. But just shove it down his throat. Don’t give him a whiff of footy for the next 3 weeks. See what sort of mindset you get out of him in NRLQ afterwards. He isn’t a bloke that’s going to need 50 games and 2-3 seasons worth of cup to be up to NRL standard. As a 17 year old and raw ability wise I don’t personally think he is that far off. But it’s about earning it and having the right mindset. He should be out there wanting to dominate and it seems he is happy to just contribute at the minute.

On the flip side, a couple weeks with Burt could do a lot for him. Mariner, Karapani, Semu, Bryce, Coates and Teague have all turned around careers and performances under him and in short periods of time. No doubt that if you get the best out of Francis he is well and truely at cup level.

Really just depends what they feel he is better off receiving. A good development opportunity or a reality check.

Yeah I was going to say just get him training around senior players... doesn't necessarily need to play, but Burt has been great coaching these young guys... maybe around origin Francis becomes part of the renegades for the broncos squad.

I wonder if he 'holds back' knowing that he's already beyond a certain level?

You want to see the mentality of a player always showing up... but the NFL draft just finished and a top 10 rated talent fell to 101 because he's got a ****ed knee.

US sports are different when it comes to medicals and injuries, because of the sheer volume of players, but Francis could be looking at it like ... "I'm just about to start my career and I just need to ease my way through this level, because the next level is imminent"

Wouldn't he just play in the division below Q Cup ?

Wouldn't he just play in the division below Q Cup ?
Well he will if he doesn’t get an opportunity but the point is that BRL is not a very good level and should be far below Francis’ level considering he started in all 3(? or 2) trials at lock and did well. The problem is that he hasn’t played well enough to avoid ending up in this predicament where he has to go play BRL which won’t challenge him or develop him at all. In the end the lack of quality in BRL is why there currently is a 12 round NRLQ comp.

He well might, I just meant because of Bears not going another week he's got a bit of gap now.

Capras this week wouldn't be a bad debut actually if Burt has a spot, then the bye and NRLQ will be back.

Potentially another 10 NRLQ games too.

He could play A grade on the coast, which is what Bryce and McConnell do. It's a really strong comp and be a good way for Burt and the Broncos just to see how he goes against men.

Would he be training full time at the Broncos at this stage?

You would think playing some A Grade would help him find out if he can handle playing with men.

Bukowski and Verhoeven in for Wynnum.

Keen to see what Bukowski has brought back from last week.

Good test for Duffy today, Falcons is top four with no NRL players at their disposal.

Souths no ball, go down the other end first time and score.

4-0 Souths after five minutes.
