Q-CUP 2026 Queensland Cup Discussion

My favourite junior coming through.

Oozes class and it's only a matter of time before he plays NRL.

Speaking of favourites- one of mine Satrick 198m from hooker for Storm on the weekend. On the back of his NRL debut last week going back to Cup and producing that will have Bellamy happy.

His try was so good, goes left comes back right past six Roosters run at the most about 15m. Just picked the line apart.

That’s 4 more runs than paix did. Surely he gets a crack if the hype is real….

He's had one half of a game in two months, i would expect he'll be given some time in the QLD cup to get some match fitness

Jett Bryce not named this week for Bears, is he injured? Also Te Kura still not back from the States?

It doesn't really matter if Te Kura is back from the US or not ... he has no chance of handling Vlandys-ball

Did he even go to the states?

I thought his tryouts were a camp on the Gold Coast

Ankle injury and having scans- still played 80 minutes. He's a terminator.
He really is. Such a shame, hopefully it's not too bad as I am still holding out for a 18. Bryce 19. Francis team list. They had him playing on the left side of the field which I thought was interesting.

Ok he’s injured now but given his apparent progress before now, any idea why he hasn’t been given a call up given how disappointing Gosiewski and Junt have been?

It's his debut Cup season so he's still pretty raw, but I have to admit he has taken to it very well, to go from making your debut in March to having a 59 tackle game in May is an incredible effort.

To answer your question, in my opinion it's kind of hard to fit him in. You wouldn't want to start him without more experience in Cup, and he's not exactly an impact player, so running him on the bench would likely not give much more than that of Gos or Junt. But on the extended bench would be perfect, bring him on in the last 15 minutes of a game won and just tell him tackle everything that moves.

Still remember Reece stiring him up in the post grand final circle celebration in the middle of the field saying something like "someone tell Jett it's not preason yet", you could just tell from the look of him how keen he was to get back into it, and that's how he plays just pure heart and effort.

Would not be surprised if he and Francis make their debuts this year, both just need a little bit of luck.

Best didn't play for Ipswich State High last night and his shoulder looks like it will rule him out for the whole of Alf.

@1910, Peter Badel is reporting that several QLD Cup clubs have held "secret" meetings about forming a Super League style breakaway competition because of "growing disenchantment" with the Queensland Rugby League.

Here are some of the details Badel talks about in the article:

** Several executives have met over the past month to discuss breaking away from the Queensland Hostplus Cup competition and setting up a rebel 12-team league.

** The 12-team Super League proposal includes clubs from Burleigh, Brisbane Tigers, Wynnum Manly, Norths Devils, Ipswich, Townsville, Northern Pride and Papua New Guinea.

** The four QLD NRL clubs would field reserve grade teams in the breakaway comp

** There is a view the QRL is sitting on its hands and is reluctant to confront a push for NRL clubs, such as the Cowboys and Broncos, having reserve-grade teams in the Queensland Cup.

** There are fears that blocking the Cowboys, Titans and Broncos from the Hostplus Cup could one day lead to an NRL reserve grade, which would relegate the Queensland competition to third-tier status.

The denials from the clubs are coming fast, so either Badel is lying or the clubs are ducking for cover now.

The NRL fund the Cup for 7.5 million and QRL about 6 million- where are these 12 clubs getting that?

I'm guessing it's just a threat to try and get standalone teams in the cup?

A "super league" breakaway just wouldn't work in the current landscape.

QRL runs all the junior footy across the state, the breakaway comp won't be running that, and State of Origin is QRL vs NSWRL... they're the ones that hire the coaches... the NRL is not handing that over to a breakaway comp either.

It does seem like the NRL clubs are getting a bit annoyed around a few things QRL have done
- QRL preventing the NRL Dolphins from being Redcliffe... not sure how real that one is and how much is the NRL just not wanting them to be assigned to a geographic location
- QRL denying cows and titans from having standalone teams
- Storm have pulled out of Qcup to join NSWRL
- The Qld NRL teams getting the NRLQ off the ground after the Colts cup was cancelled

It seems like QRL is falling behind NSWRL, which then has an impact at NRL level because QRL is where the NRL clubs are sourcing their talent from.

The answer would be simple.

"... It is understood the breakaway competition will be called the Sportsbet Cup. Not only will 6-agains be introduced, but there will be exclusive betting markets available including over/under the number of 6-agains called in a match and which teams/players will have the most called against them... ".

In Badel's exclusive he does breakdown the funding the current QLD Cup receives, then says:

"To successfully achieve a Queensland Super League, the mooted 12 teams would require direct funding from the NRL."

Nio has withdrawn from the Seagulls game this afternoon.

Tomorrow afternoon you can catch the Bears (Bradley, Coates, Rogers, Bryce, Mozer, Francis) against the ladder leading Falcons on Kayo/9Now.

No Storm hasn't hurt the Cup at all, Falcons are coming first without any NRL players.

Titans and Cowboys weren't denied they were told to go away and come back with a plan for what this would look like in 2028.

QRL run NRLQ and fund it with the NRL. No Colts and Meninga being Under 19 has made Meninga better and players are now playing Cup and NRL earlier. Ikin was 100% right on that one. The fact the NRL teams put players in Cup that could be playing NRLQ proves you don't need the age group.

When the NRL needed a team they promoted a Cup team they didn't get Newtown back did they? QRL/Cup can't be too bad when the NRL has to source their teams from there.
