Q-CUP 2026 Queensland Cup Discussion

Junior Amone has been cleared to make his top flight return to rugby league after signing a deal to play with Brisbane Broncos feeder club Wynnum-Manly Seagulls.

For those who forgot about this bloke

Amone was sacked for his role in a rooftop hammer attack on a tradesman in Wollongong.

In 2025, he pleaded guilty to common assault after spitting at a woman at a Wollongong pub.

He was chase by a number of QLD cup clubs but chose Wynumm-Manly because of Head who was an assistant while Amone was at the Dragons

Sure is but I've been pretty consistent over a number of years on my thoughts on our R&R team wouldn't you agree?

In October the exact same Recruitment team was the greatest you'd ever seen.

Everyone was the greatest then 😀. Surely they can see we need middles. JetSki and j hunt arent exactly what we need and prob wouldn’t be in anyone else’s top 30 ..
surely there’s somebody out there …

So if we take the NSW Cup, when a club has a player in reggies they want to invest long term in, what they'll often do is give them a three year contract where the final year is a dev deal. If they're happy to sign that, the player signals their commitment and what usually happens is that they'll work towards an upgrade.

Turner's current deal is similar to a NSW Cup deal. If the Broncos had their own club, he'd be a Bronco, not a Magpie. I'm not sure if Turner has committed beyond this year but if he attracted interest, the Broncos would have to come up with a similar deal otherwise he'd take the NRL deal.

I don't think Brisbane will have anything to worry about. He's played 20 minutes of Queensland Cup, he's a pup.
I wonder if those NSWRL deals have clauses allowing them to be broken if an NRL deal pops up?

In the situation you have outlined above it ends with a dev deal... so an NRL contract... presumably there arent clauses in there if someone comes along with a top 30 deal or anything.

Whereas if Turner has a deal with the magpies there are likely clauses that allow him to break that contract if an NRL deal pops up?

Would there be non competes or something to prevent poaching between NSW Cup teams where a dogs or penrith can refuse someone leaving a reserve grade contract early... but that may not be the case for affiliates that control their own salary cap / roster?

Your guess is as good as mine.

1910 might be able to answer, but I presume when it comes to the Queensland Cup and New South Wales Cup, any player that isn't on an NRL deal merely sign on for the year and they're free to negotiate.

No they'd have to honour the commitment unless they seek a release.

Rival clubs can enquire about the player. Where are you at it with Brady? Would you consider releasing him? We have a high opinion and willing to make him a good offer. We have a player here who wants to move closer to home, would you be interested in them?

etc. etc.

I don't think a club has been shrewd enough to ask for a loan for 2027 and then sign them for 2029/2030.

I'm not 100% sure. I don't think so, unless they've signed some kind of NRL deal (eg. 2026/27 reserve, 2028 dev). It's only rumoured but that's the speculation surrounding Bryenton. He's moved back to Queensland, but can't play for any rival clubs due to his commitment to the Bulldogs so he's playing club Rugby.

I dont think he's even that good despite being hyped as a junior.

Pure running 6 that has been out of the game for ages now.

Nothing stopping cup clubs from signing players to multiple year deals but obviously it's rare and there would be clauses. Ben Farr is in the second year of his two year deal he signed after leaving NZ.

I didn't see Turner, but I guess he falls closer into that discussion about dedicated reserve grade teams and Sydney clubs and their reserve grade setups.

It sounds like he was off the radar, but he might be a late bloomer?

What will broncos options be moving forward?

I'm assuming the hope would keeping him on a T&T, but he's in Burleigh so what happens if titans or dophins come knocking and throw a top 30 or dev deal at him because they have a spare spot.

Don't think he's off the radar, played NRLQ this year and won Broncos U21 player of the year last year and is now playing Cup.

He's gone Meninga, NRLQ, played an NRL trial and Cup in 18 months. Isn't that how pathways are supposed to work?

Turner's deal isn't with the Magpies it's with the Broncos. Broncos could move him to Bears this weekend. Which he'd probably rather, he's a coast kid that played Meninga for the Bears.

Dolphins would have had to release Price this week to join the Warriors they didn't have to, but they would have been dicks if they didn't.

Bears released Talty to the Broncos and that was for a train and trial not even a top 30.
