4th club sacks Taumata

It's quite simple.

The bigger the name, the more their misconduct brings their club and the game into disrepute. Why? Because more people care.

If it's a Neville Nobody who ***** up, club sacks them, nobody really cares - just say "oh dear, there goes another Gen Y fuckwit".

If it's a Darren Lockyer or an Andrew Johns or even a Todd Carney, it's "Oh my god, they're a star for their club, it's disgraceful that they don't behave themselves! They should be banned, that'll learn them!"

Right or wrong, irrelevant. That's how it works.

You forgot "He's a role model"

Todd Carney is the last person who can whinge about the big names getting a harder deal. It was that "big name" that kept him at the Raiders when Steve Irwin(?) got booted.

Maybe the higher profile players do cop more from the NRL (and fair enough IMO, as per what Coxy said), but they get a thousand and one chances at the club level before it's even in the NRL's hands. The fringe players are kicked out without a second thought.

Shame, the guys got some talent.

Wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that said about a young footballer
Did you see him rip us up last year? That game that was hyped as the beginning of our road to the finals the he and Sonny Bill pulled our pants down...

Leon Bott looked like magic, a lightning bolt striking six places and a leprechaun rolled into one in a big game against the Roosters a few years back. I'm sure most of us have looked pretty decent for an hour or so at one time in our lives or another. Doesn't mean much though.

Unfortunate for him and Melbourne because they really needed him so they could shift GI wider.

With that being said though if he is going to go out on the piss and get into trouble he needs to suffer the consequences. He obviously hasnt learnt from his actions to date but hopefully one day he will for his sake and everyone elses that he comes across!

Ah, very good point, yes irwin got the sack for just being in the passenger seat while tod was driving the car evading police and got to stay!! It's true the NRL go harder on the name players probebly cause the clubs won't.

They go harder on the good players because otherwise the clubs have no reason to discipline them.

Scenario:
- Canberra sack Todd Carney
- NRL don't deregister him
- Todd Carney signs for another club tomorrow

Hardly learns his lesson does he?

you forgot

- Carney scores the match-winner against Canberra thus knocking them out of the finals the next week

the dickhead couldn't even manage a game this time before getting sacked. whats it going to take for him to learn that clubs wont put up with his shit
