Is that his name?

Oh well who cares.

What did you make of it?

It was bad, but i didn't think it deserved a sending off based on previous efforts from referees.

Definitely not a send-off. Penalty and on report sufficient - think we saw four worse in our game last night!

That being said, Manly must still be laughing. They won the match, and the judiciary will almost certainly see sending off as being harsh enough... there's no way they will suspend him further.

Wasn't bad enough to warrant a send-off. If bean reffed our game last night, you could bet that Hodges, Hayne and the one that elbowed Kemp would be on the bench for most of the night.

I would have banned him for life on the basis he plays for Manly.

Seriously though, it was a swinging arm and it was high. Sin bin would have been more reasonable although I don't know if Cuthbertson had been in trouble with the ref earlier in the game.

Send offs have happened before - SBW on Joey Johns although that was a lot more serious. Not sure about sin binnings though.

Can you get sin binned for a high tackle?

Nope, not by the letter of the law unless, I think, the ref has warned about constant high shots. Sin bins are for professional fouls only.

Which IMO is ridiculous.

The sin-bin was a perfect way to use a capital punishment, without effecting the balance of the entire game.

I agree, I had no idea that the sin bin was out of bounds for this sort of stuff.

Cutherbertson didn't deserve to have the same punishment for his lazy attempt at a tackle as Matai got for his dirty attempt to take Gasiner out of the game.

If it wasnt worthy of send off I dont really know what is these days!

With that in mind Hodgo probably deserved to go last night and quite possibly Hayne too.

I like to see the rule changed for send offs to something like the offending side must play with 1 short for 15 mins after which time you can have 13 but the offending player cannot take further part in the game.

Agreed, I think it deserved a Sin bin. It was pretty bad. I like that the Ref had the balls to do it though. IMO it doesn't happen often enough anymore. Adds another element to the game when you lose a player (and its not the Broncos) [icon_razz1

i agree, the sin bin is not used enough anymore. it is the best way to stamp out certian illegalities in the game.

You can't use the bin for foul play under the current system, can you?

I think these days refs are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I'm sure a lot of people probably would have been wondering what actually does warrant a send off had Cuthbertson stayed on the field. At first look, it was a swinging arm, and it was straight across the guys face. I can't blame the ref for giving him his marching orders in this case.

I agree - although it looked like almost the old notorious "stiff arm", and it looked, if not premeditated, utterly negligent, and you'd reckon players would have enough nous to realise how the NRL regards attacking the head and the possible consequences.
