Adelaide to host SOO match

I'm fairly sure that's the point.

The TV ratings for league in SA are pitifully low though. They are just not interested. It's like a blind AFL place - far more so than Perth and Melbourne. And they view it as part of their identity so league is just not going to work there. No point in playing SOO there. Waste of time.

You have to innovate or die in business & the NRL is very much a business.

There's a reason the AFL is looking at China & India. It's not like there is interest in the sport there at the moment but these areas have huge potential.

SA doesn't have an interest now and it will stay that way if the NRL ignore it.

So take a few NRL games there. Not the golden egg.

The AFL is also innovative, forward-thinking and highly, highly professional, the direct opposite of the NRL, therefore this is not a great plan.

Perth actually makes sense due to the Western Force's demise and the fact there is already a solid rugby interest. Adelaide is just pointless to give an origin to unless you plan to re-start a team based there in the near future...which the NRL certainly wouldn't be thinking about doing.

We could take NRL games there and build up interest before taking our best product to a place where there is hardly any interest. I'm not talking about 1-2 games and then move it over, I'm talking about taking several games there for years and build up interest and then look at taking SOO over there.

AFL are moving games to other places but are they going to be moving their GF to a place where there is **** all interest?

Taking SOO to Adelaide without first building interest doesn't sound like smart business to me. The chances of it being a massive embarrassment are quite high.

Rams averaged 15,330 a game in their first year. That's more than every Sydney team last year bar the Roosters. Roosters only win by 428.

Yes...20 years ago...before the AFL decided to go super professional and national while gaining huge support for their two very successful Adelaide teams. In that last 20 years, the NRL has done what exactly for SA?

Screw Origin in Adelaide. NRL just needs a team in Perth. ASAP. Let them play games at 7:30 pm Perth time on Friday or Saturday nights. 9:30 pm on the east coast. Perfect for TV.

This is a no-brainer, would absolutely work a treat and therefore will not happen.

You could easily even use a loan system for young players or fringe graders to go there and get game time.

It's just a shame we can't move the Roosters over there. Perfect team to move but too many connected figures involved with the club.

NRL has no common sense. The other states dont get State of Origin and never will. This is their golden egg and they are treating it like shit with fucking with tradition. No other sport plays their biggest rivalries outside of their home states for a reason. Have the reason the origin games are so good are the atmosphere of the whole thing. You will get that in NSW and QLD where fans actually give a shit about the result but the other states will be just like oooh yeah that looks good but actually dont give a **** about the series or result.

They paid $8 million for it, I'd say from a business perspective the NRL have shown plenty of common sense.

About the same amount the Storm have done for Victoria. Sweet **** all

Nope. 8 mill is pitance to what it really brings in. Lets be realistic here, they wont sell out so they will be giving half the tickets away for free to begin with (unlike NSW or QLD where atleast 90% is actually sold and the other 10% are given to sponsors) & they will lose some sponsorship for people with no business interest in Adelaide (beer companies in particular because their market isnt in SA to begin with or even Perth). But hey, they will pull the old record viewers ratings out because the game isnt in either state that watches the actual sport. Its equivelent to the AFL playing their grand final at Darwin and then gloating about their record viewers because nobody can get there to watch it so they have to watch at home on TV.
The NRL just dont get it. Its a state rivalry game that wont be understood by anyone other than the states participating. Show case it however you want, the game will have **** all atmosphere to what a true game at Suncorp or ANZ would. Its like bringing Argentena v Brazil in soccer to Australia. Sure it would be decent to watch, but it would have nothing on actually watching that game in one of their home countries.

It’s a 10th without doing a thing. Origin last year made 80 million. 20-30 from gate and sponsors and then 50 from broadcast.

So 8 million ahead from the SA government when you were going to give it for free seems sound.

You obviously never went and saw Liverpool in Melbourne. 90000 singing YNWA was unbelievable.

XXXX aren’t giving up a 26 year sponsoring for the Queensland team. XXXX Gold is served at the Adelaide Oval. The Australian cricket team is sponsored by them.

West End Draught, XXXX Gold, Hahn Super Dry, James Boag, Corona and Heineken are just some of the beers from Lion’s portfolio that will be available at the stadium, as well as 5 Seeds cider.

Lion are the offical stadium supplier.
