AUS FOOTBALL AFL Grand Final 2023 - Collingwood v Brisbane

OH MY GOSH!! That is WRONG, so freaking wrong man. Screw that, that is NRL level bad.

He knocked out a Lions player illegally, got off on a technicality, even the AFL CEO said it was the wrong call and then...he beats Neale from the Lions by 1 vote.

THAT IS A FARCE!
Now we know why they inexplicably overturned his suspension. Didn't want to risk the embarrassment of the winner being ineligible.

The thing is, he shouldn't have been playing that last round, he should have been suspended and he polled three votes. The game he shouldn't have played won it for him!

Two of the top teams playing and they could only manage one camera at the ground for broadcasting lol

I don’t think you could’ve put it anywhere else considering it was out at Casey and the weather. Wouldn’t be wanting to put steel scaffolding up in an open area

Dunkley has nominated the Lions!!!!!! Far out man, him and Ashcroft coming in will change EVERYTHING. We are legit contenders next year now...unless we have a shock player wanting out.

Lachie Neale is getting his help and then some!

These reports coming out of the Hawks are disturbing to say the least.

It sounds so crazy to believe. I hope for all involved it isn’t true. This was during the hawks premiership years and you have to wonder if a player is that important to go to the lengths that’s being alleged

It all sounds REALLY bad and if it is true, well Lions and Norths will be looking for new coaches.

If it isn't true, why would you make it up? But what is the context? It sounds like the stolen generation on a localised level. This whole things is weird and horrible and whatever happens, this isn't going to end well.

I’d be interested to know if it was only indigenous boys that were being separated from their families? I think that’s really important and will exonerate them from being racist and instead just being plain evil win at all cost assholes.

if it’s only indigenous boys they’ve separated from their families/partners and encouraged abortions then my goodness, that’s beyond horrendous and I have no words.

I’ve been a fair weather hawks fan for 20 years so this hits different.

if the broncos did this………

It’s disgusting by the sound of it. But I will reserve judgement of people until the story is factual (more so the contents of the story rather than it occurring, to unusual to be fake) and the true people involved are identified. I haven’t overly read into it but it seems highly unusual that such a high number of people were affected but the club remained in a situation where there culture was good enough to provide one of the most dominant era’s by an AFL club in the modern era. I think we understand at our club over the past few years how important culture is. On top of that what makes this even more disgusting if true, why did nobody stand up at the time and question why, who and how this is allowed to happen. That’s players, officials, family members. Seems unlikely that it takes a decade to get out when obviously this story would rub so many people the wrong way. Hopefully the truth comes out and justice is found for whoever was wronged from this saga.

It's my old man's birthday today and he has been a life long Cats supporter.

what are the chance the Cats can give him a birthday present and win the GF

Pretty high.

it actually makes me a bit sad watching the game today. Despite the blowout scoreline the game day buildup and atmosphere of the afl gf shits all over the rugby league one. Saturday afternoon is when our gf should be played too. Sunday night is such a dud time slot.

Geelong the rightful premiers. They’ll probably have. Few retirements though after this.

I switched it off at half time, what a disappointment.

They’ll probably have a lull season and be right back in contention again after. Incredible they’ve been at the top for so long.

this may be too complicated to explain in here, but I was wondering how the AFL player movements work.

I understand the trade period, and the rookie draft.

but what about delistings and free agency (unrestricted / restricted).

for example, if this was in the NRL, could we say decide that Haas was too much trouble and simply say "see ya, delisted"

This is my jam.

So the key points in answer to your questions are:

Delistings generally happen in three ways:
1. Most common - to players who are in the last year of the contracts and the club doesn't want them anymore, essentially, this is just not renewing a contract like Turpin
2. Players that the club doesn't really want to keep but they are contracted, so they delist them but will retake them in the Rookie Draft (this happens for mature age players a few days after the national draft), in this instance, another club can come in and take them if their picks come before the club in question, so teams will never do this with a player they want to keep, it is too risky
3. A player who is contracted can be delisted but they get their contract paid out in full and this comes off the club's salary cap for the next season, this NEVER happens

Free Agency is convoluted man. Basically:
- An unrestricted free agent is someone who has been at a club 7 years I think and is NOT in the top 25% of the salaries for the team OR has been delisted in the past
- A restricted free agent is someone at a club under 7 years And/or is in the top 25% of earners in the team
- Unrestricted free agents will usually receive a compensation pick in the national draft depending on how long their new contract is, their age, the salary in the new contract and a number of other factors
- A restricted free agent can sign with another club but their existing club can match the contract offered if they choose and force a trade with the intended destination club

I hope that helps somewhat

the ex-partner of one of the indigenous Hawks players involved in this scandal is refusing to participate in the AFL's investigation saying she had fundamental concerns with the investigation and the terms of reference which have been ignored by the AFL. accusing the AFL of "silencing tactics" and an "unsafe process"

Marque Lawyers, acting on behalf of ‘Amy’ have released a statement:

“Through us, Amy raised significant concerns regarding the investigation with the AFL and asked for major changes, only some of which were incorporated into the final ToR,” the statement read.

“Several fundamental concerns were ignored, and Amy was given only two days to consider the ToR before the AFL publicly launched the investigation, leaving her no choice but to not participate in the process. To underline the lack of real consultation, the final ToR released by the AFL are materially different from the version provided to Amy two days earlier.”

Amy’s lawyers state she is concerned “it is not an independent investigation” as an “external body with appropriate expertise” was not selected, and was alarmed it was a rushed process.

“Instead, the AFL’s own lawyers are assisting the investigation panel and corresponding with parties on its behalf,” the statement read.

“The AFL, Hawthorn and those who are alleged to have engaged in inappropriate conduct are all reported as welcoming this move (to push on with the ToR). They have gone back to business as usual, including Alastair Clarkson and Chris Fagan being returned to their coaching posts.

“For Amy, it is not business as usual.

“The findings of the Hawthorn Cultural Safety Review have forced Amy to relive her own trauma, while also revealing to her the scale of the mistreatment of other First Nations players and their families. Amy has had to work through the guilt she feels at having stayed silent back then; that perhaps, had she said something, she could have prevented it happening to others.

“In refusing to participate in this unsafe process (the AFL investigation), Amy is refusing to consent to the silencing tactics of the AFL.”
