NEWS AFL TV Deal

Anyone with half a brain could tell the Vlandys deal was terrible, unfortunately the media massively benefitted so of course the parties to it praise him and the idiots running clubs probably got a bribe too so they don’t call it out. In any case, this AFL deal highlights how bad Vlandys is for this sport, but man, he got that two weeks early re-start he can rest his laurels on forever.
Pretty much, there is going to be no one on Nine or Fox calling out their own gravy train deals, the more incompetent the deal is the more they will talk him up.

Apparently with Redcliffe coming in, the NRL wanted to get a bit more money for the deal so for a small upgrade Fox was willing to do it as long as more Broncos games were on Exclusive Fox slots(this is why we have had much more games that were not on Nine)this is a weak deal for the NRL since they are only bringing value by having more games but somehow negotiated themselves into an even deal.

This helps Foxtel get more viewers but hurts us as less eyeballs on our games which in turn hurts our sponsorship value, but since we are owned by Newscorp they don't give a **** since the media arms benefit outweighs our clubs negative.

Oh boy how I wish someone bought us from these leeches.

I bet Don Vlandys probably got a sweetheart deal for racing NSW as part of the NRL deal

But wasn’t I told how amazing he was because “VLandys saved the game”…. And that no one else could have done what he did?
He saved the scum journo's boss's billions, of course they're going to fellate him.

Unfortunately NRL players are pretty dumb, but this situation only solves itself if they band together and start a shit storm.

After all, they're the hardest hit by getting rorted on a TV deal. They could have easily doubled their salaries.

I don't care for AFL, just posting this to highlight how bad V'landys is.

4.5 billion for 7 years.

What do you think the NRL just extended for on their new deal?

NRL deal announced December last year:

The deal, announced on Monday, means Fox Sports, Nine and Sky TV New Zealand have all agreed to broadcast contracts that will yield more than $2bn in revenue for the NRL before they run out in 2027.

400m per year for NRL broadcast rights.
643m per year for AFL broadcast rights.

The NRL has consistently better TV ratings. Make it make sense without greaseball horse racing man selling out the game.

That's comparing the current NRL deal and the new AFL deal; the AFL is on the figure closer to $400 million for the next two seasons until this deal of $643 million starts.

You're not going to be able to compare them until 2027 when the NRL goes again.

The AFL has gone up by 2.5 in 2015 to 4.5 in 2025. It's increased 50% with every deal. Up to the NRL to keep upping their price too.

But then it wouldn't be fair on the AFL to compare it because that would be comparing the current AFL deal and the new NRL deal. You can only compare the two latest deals.

They are probably spending half of the money just trying to market Vlandys as a good leader, never seen so much asslicking with the previous bosses.

The last AFL deal was 2 years (more of an extension) signed at the end of 2020 during the height of COVID. NRL was a year later for 5 (?). NRL was selling a long term deal at the bottom of the market, AFL was holding out for better conditions.

End result is we're locked in a poor deal long term but praise be Don Vlandys our saviour.

100%. There was no obvious incentive for such a long deal. So the question does remain, why do it?

V’landys is newscorp’s man, always has been.

This guy may very well be the death of rugby league.

The game is in a stronger position than what it was before he took over.

What a load of rubbish.

Let’s look at the facts, not the useless stats Abdo would bring:
- Highly unpopular rule changes
- A new team coming in that has been awfully managed
- Hypocrisy and corruption that is turning fans away
- AFL signing a monster deal while the NRL signed a downgraded one
- No idea where a grand final is being played officially speaking until 6 weeks out
- Disgruntled fans turning away from the game
- Kids growing up with far more and far better exposure to other sports, other sports which are also better publicised and more positively so in the media
- A return to Sydney-centric methodology and planning
- A total lack of awareness or care about what competitors are doing
- AFL massively infiltrating the key QLD market while he insults Queenslanders

The effect of some of this can already be seen, the others will take a couple of years and by then it may well be too late.

But the two weeks he gets praised for was special, he should write his own life time contract apparently. Don't just rehash what the media tells you man, they CLEARLY have a vested interest in pumping up this moron's tyres.
