NEWS Alex Glenn keen to ink contract extension with Brisbane Broncos

Indeed.
Said it sometime ago 'He’s our captain in waiting'.
Burred up when Coates was flattened, just what the young blokes need. Hodges and Tallis were the same. No coincidence we went to another level after he reacted to the knee. For those who don’t like that idea you might find you need to accept it sooner then later.

Sometimes I get the sense that Lodge puts a lid on his on field aggression because he knows no matter how good a bloke he becomes off the field, any grubbiness on it will have him torn to shreds by the public.

As long as he’s a decent bloke off the field, I say **** them and rip in Lodgy. I’d love to see him become another Tallis or Hodges type on the field.

I doubt the club will do it. Nightmare for a PR standpoint

Gallen managed to shake off his horrible early career PR by becoming a captain.

Re- Boyd: How many other players in our team or any team are guaranteed a spot every single week as long as they achieve a decent or passable standard at best?

Captains (especially captains popular with their teammates) always get extra time to turn their form around.

the fact that Seibs is planning on moving him (likely when we get Milford back) is a good sign

Thaiday was guaranteed a spot for the season last year regardless of form and or how bad he played. But that was last year and yesterday arvo the baby Broncs gave the whole NRL community a glimpse into our future and I for one love it. Excited!

Speaking of captains, what about Turnip in the near future? Like people have said, he's been the heart of the side.

One serious roadblock to Lodge's Captaincy aspirations is the unfortunate reality of the commercial side of the modern game and at no club is that impact more deeply felt than at Brisbane.

I'm not saying it's an insurmountable but it would definitely be a big concern for the Broncos management given how much they ask of their Captain in a commerical/promotional sense.

Well it's Round 16 and he's played probably 2-3 games of a decent or passable standard all year. How much more time should he realistically get on the basis that he's popular with his team mates?

Not sure I agree with the Thaiday example. He got moved to Prop to accommodate other Backrowers and then he was benched at times as well.

Granted he wasn't really dropped outright but it helps he played in a position (Front Row) which requires 3-4 guys to play those positions every week and Darius plays in a spot that only requires one.

A few good games each year is not good enough at this level Huge, especially from your Captain and most decorated player.

If in fact he did maintain his form from last night than a decision to retain him would be acceptable. Unfortunately he has already proven that he is unable to maintain it. He has probably bought himself leeway until the end of the season in the coaches eye. I definitely don't agree with it but it will likely happen.
I didn't say a few good games here and there would be good enough, did I ? I actually said, IF Boyd keeps playing like yesterday. Not sure what you were trying to point out as it seems you agree with what I wrote. You could have simply said 'I agree'. I don't know that Boyd has proven he can't do a thing yet but it's proven he hasn't been consistent thus far. That may change.

So he produced a decent/passable game yesterday, how long does he get to trade off that performance before he's back under pressure again? If he turns in back to back stinkers for the next two weeks is it fair to drop him then? Whats the magic number where we say enough is enough?

I can't tell if your a glass half full or empty bloke sometimes huge but your right I do agree with what you said. You certainly do seem overly optimistic on Boyd chances of playing like that each week. I think we both know as Broncos fans, the odds are not in our favour.

Well, I just view things and people a little differently than many do. Human beings are always surprising the rest of us and Boyd's previous form means absolutely nothing if his desire (mental state?viewpoint?) changes.

He could snap, hell he could become a different person virtually overnight, there's few limits on what humans can do. I just refuse to make definitive claims about what a person can do. If Boydy wants it, he can get it. I hope he does really want it because I have troubling stomaching the gutless personal attacks. He probably has more courage in his finger than his detractors have in their whole bodies.

You realise some of his detractors have served in the military right?

Yes, that's highly possible. I doubt if many who have served in the military would be the ones labelling him gutless and pea hearted. They, more than most would appreciate the ticker required to play the game and especially where it's the most ferocious like Origin and first grade. True I should have clarified that I consider him more gutsy than MOST of his detractors. That was my bad.

Are you kidding? Is this sarcasm?
