Alex Glenn

also think its coaching. went to training on friday and i have to say, we play like we train. which is no structure, flat line across both sides of hte field.

I find this horrifying. The fact that this shit has never been addressed in griffins reign just proves what a woeful coach he is

Its embarrassing to think that our worst tacklers on our teams for tackles missed are two second rowers in Matt Gillett and Alex Glenn. Bennett should make them tackle the bag all through out the off season to make them improve their defence.

Glenn has been top three in the entire league in missed tackle percentages, over the past three years.

He gets a lot of minutes for only 90-110 metres, but rarely bends the line, let alone breaks it. Rarely off loads.

Gets 25 tackles a match, but these are powderpuff, second man hits (coupled with missed tackles).

Also seems to be at the heart of a "near enough is good enough", "coach's favourite" clique of players.

Seriously this guy needs to go, or get used to number 17/18.

Also the "Future captain" tag needs to **** right off.

Yes he hasn't done anything since Locky left. He did score a few tries when locky was around so maybe more direction from our halves will improve his game but he is kinda boring to watch and its sad when our winger (Vidot) bends the line and carries defenders better then our backrower.

I do think he has had a tuff time with our make shift 6 all year (Hoffman). Since Barba shifted to the 6 he has looked a little better actually hitting a few holes, but his stats are never flattering and he doesn't bend the line at all. Also as someone stated earlier the amount of missed tackles for a backrower is unacceptable. He seems to just fill up numbers now and isn't a strike weapon at all. I give him one pre season with bennet and a decent 5/8 and if he doesn't come out firing in the trials. I would be tempted to move Gillett to the left, Thaiday to the right and Parker back to lock..

The sad thing for Glenn is, if he loses his starting position I believe his chances of being in the 17 are slim. He isn't really a dynamic type bench player to bring on and cause Havoc. Plus we have this awesome Player in Oates who is perfect for that role. Plus young guns Molo, Adams, Ofahengaue.

I wouldn't be against a release.

Disagree OP. Glenn is rock solid.

If only we had structure like that Roosters set play where they have two forward bull runner options running next to each other, or out the back to Pearce...

Man Gillett/Oates/Glenn would smash that line so much harder than Cordner or Guerra.

As we play now it's now just a short short ball option right at the line. Never works.

I like Glenn he is a versatile player that is worth keeping around. Can be used in the centres and a runner of the fringes.

If only we were able to get away with a huge amount of ridiculous forward passes every week like the Roosters too.

I used to think the Broncos forward pack was good. Now I don't know what to think. Gillett plays a few good games and then disappears. Glenn quietly doe plenty of work but misses a ton of tackles. Thaiday only plays good in Origin.

I just think it's a case of them never reaching what fans considered their full potential.

now whether they ever had that level of improvement in them is up for debate, but it's clear to say all three have plateaued since about 2011. It could certainly be the halves causing it, but the halves cant be blamed for 3 seasons of inconsistency imo.

which is why i personally disagree with the idea that 'we have a premiership winning squad we just need the right coaching', our squad just isn't that good. we have a lot of average plodders and are severely lacking in creative spark (outside one or two players, whom aren't entirely consistent themselves).

I think our forwards are all amazing talents. I think the issue is 2-3 years ago agile ball playing forwards were in vogue and we had the best. RL has moved back towards huge hard running forwards and our pack just doesn't have the size to compete. This problem is made even bigger due to a coach that either refused or was unable to create a game plan to utilise their skill.

The best solution is to sign some big boys to make our pack more balanced.

I think there are problems in our back row, tbh and not necessarily limited to Glenn. Gillett, Thaiday and Glenn are all great players individually but they are not combining as they should. It's a problem replicated through the whole side - we don't play as a team. Agree with Renegade 100% that the halves can't shoulder all the blame as we've tried several combinations the last few years with negligible impact and no long-term improvement with him.

A change needs to be made. whether it's a positional swap or a new player, I'm not sure. Thaiday has the look of Brent Tate circa 2007...maybe a change of club isn't the worst idea in the world. Gillett is a world-beater on his day but those days are starting to be few and far between. He was really poor on Saturday night (and No - I'm not buying the "oh, but he was playing with one arm" line. The players knows best. If he knew he couldn't play to a high level with his injury he needed to rule himself out. Selfish play, imo.

I agree with the guy that said Glenn is probably not the best fit for a bench player but considering the guys we've had on the bench this year, he couldn't do worse.
