It been reported in the Courier Mail the Broncos have decided to give Tevita Pangai Junior one more chance. His contract won't be torn up and he will be playing at the Broncos next year.

I tend to think all parties involved win out of this decision. The Broncos may have had a difficult legal case what's gone on with other players/staff being involved in making errors of judgement regarding covid restrictions. Pangai Junior also seems sincere about his commitment to the Broncos he apparently has quarantine himself to show he is willing to bide by the guidelines. And with the Broncos losing David Fifita to the Titans Pangai Junior will certainly come in handy next year.

Now its time to cut the crap out. Now more antics, no more suspensions and try living up to his potential.

If he is granted a stay of execution when is he able to take the field again- anyone know?

Think I read he is suspended till the 8th of September

Correct. Doesn't mean he will return to the field after that date though. It was suggested in the Courier Mail that it will be surprising if he plays again this season.

Keep him. Current contract. Give him a fine the means something, and let him play footy.
Agreed - as his team rightly point out he’s done no seriously illegal stuff like drugs, assault etc. attitude is a bit off but nothing so bad as to warrant anything more than a hectic fine.

I hope this is a real wake up call for him and he steps up, because no TPJ and we aren't moving forward.

Brent Read's article in the CM says that if we don't terminate his contract, we have the option of either suspending him for an extended period or fine him up to 1/4 of his contract

I'm pretty split on this one. Personally, I think the damage has probably already been done to the relationship and TPJ's apparent contrition is likely about keeping his pay cheque and hoping we can shield him from the wrath of the NRL more than his having a genuine love and will to make things up with the Broncos. I suspect he'll still likely turn on us the moment he can get a good offer elsewhere.

That said, he's probably on balance just slightly good enough in his upside potential to mitigate the large number of downside risks he brings to the table, so I can understand the cards falling in his favour this time around. I think our best hope is that he's motivated to get back on the field and kill it for because if he's planning on shafting us eventually then he needs to be playing his best football to attract other suitors.

I think it's an awful call. Football talent shouldn't come into it if we're trying to clean up the culture around the place.

He's clearly a toxic dickhead but we'll see. He's a brilliant player when he's switched on, so maybe the board is hoping this really big scare will straighten his career out.

I just think he'll be out the door next contract anyway to the highest bidder but we are desperately low on backrowers next year so maybe it is the best we can do in a shit situation.

Well the easy way out for the club would have been to just sack him but then he gets the easy walk to another club on a new fatter contract (basically gets what he wants). Keep him here, hit his hip pocket because that's what he would hate the most and then put him back to work.

If we sacked him then we would need the NRL to back us and not let him walk into another club on a bigger contract.

I think it's incredibly harsh to fire someone when the club is in the state that it is currently in. I don't think anyone can look onto what's happened this year, and say with confidence, that TPJ has been given the best opportunity and support to fix whatever issues he has in his little footy brain.

Add to the fact that it looks like nothing will come of the lads playing pokies at the EH, then I think it's even more far fetched to fire TPJ over what he's done.

I hope this is the first step in the board putting up their hand and saying "We played a part, lets give him a shot to fix it with good support and coaching"

TPJ is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and he also isn't particularly bright. So I think if he doesn't like someone, he isn't good at hiding it and then spirals downward, this is what I think I happened with the ex-coach. I think he is also influential and probably got in the ear of other players.

This is a tough situation and I am happy to give him another shot under a more appropriate coach for this group and someone who TPJ respects.

I hope you two are right because our roster is pretty shit at it is and if TPJ actually knuckles down and becomes a professional off the field, he could be the best backrower in the game

Glad to keep him. He’s had far more big games and moments than his million dollar second row partner. There was a time where everything he said was impressive and then he turned out to be a massive dickhead. Hopefully he’s just young and stupid and was getting some bad advice and someone at the club can straighten him out. A decent coach will probably help.
