Yep, there AREN'T salary cap concessions for 'grown' players, so it actually makes no difference how many players you've developed vs how many you've bought.

Should there be a concession? Would it be good for the game? I'd like to think it would mean more players stay at one club for their career.

there should definately be concessions for 'grown players'. because that would encourage the clubs to spend the money on development and that is only positive for the games grass roots icon_thumbs_u

Exactly what foordy said. One of the reasons the game in dying in some areas is that some clubs don't do any junior development, so the good young players end up in another sports system. And the reasons they don't do any junior development are:

a) under the current salary cap, they know that after they invest a lot of time and money into developing said players and they start to make it big, they won't be able to keep them all so have to let them go and see another club reap the returns on their investment

b) they know that clubs who do development will be in above situation and they can just come along and buy these players, therefore basically getting them cheaper than if in addition to their current salary they had to invest the development money as well.

And as you said, it would mean more players staying at the one club for their entire career - which will help improve fan relations as the players and clubs will be seen as being more loyal. A lot of fans are disenchanted with having to see their best young players lost to their club.

So yeah I think it would be good for the game.

Honestly, this has been done to death - and then some.

Yes, we lost all those players and yeh it does blow - we know the dynamics behind it all. I think it is time to let it go now.... =)

Live and let live!

Agree completely. But you know why it doesn't happen? The clubs that don't have strong junior bases whinge and moan about how it's unfair for them (eg Roosters, Storm etc).

Like all things, the NRL governs to cater for the lowest common denominator.

Another reason why more clubs in Sydney should be culled ASAP.

The cap needs to reduce the percentage a players contract is a part of the cap with how long he has been at his original club, 2nd year 95% 3rd 90% 4th 85% 5th 70% 6th 65% 7th 60% 8th 55% 9th 50% 10th 25%. This would promote loyalty and would reward club's that make a profit and can afford to keep their roster.

Just because it's been done to death doesn't mean we should stop discussing it and trying to change things for the better.

The Berlin Wall would never have come down if people just went- "this has been talked about and talked about to death. Let's just let it go." Things will never change if people don't keep pushing for change.

And with any luck send some of the ones that are too stupid to know different go broke (eg Cronulla, Souths, Parramatta, Roosters)

Aren't at least some of them already broke? Doesn't seem to keep them out of the comp.

Well the NRL needs to stop with the handouts. Deadset, NRL = Club Bitch.

All Sydney clubs. Then Rocky might be able to admit that Rugby League in Sydney is dying icon_thumbs_u

Too many big stadiums in NSW too.

For sure - they need more suburban grounds with more atmosphere, more heart. There's just too many big stadiums in NSW that are Nazi ridden with no atmosphere where everyone sits there and claps their hands politely.......

IMO, the NRL and the Sydney clubs should invest the money to upgrade their suburban grounds (like Kogarah, Leichardt, Refern, Brookvale Shark park and so on) to 25,000 seat boutique stadiums similar to Skilled Park and the new Melbourne stadium... then they should play all their matches out of those Stadiums rather than ANZ. i reckon they would sell out those stadiums every week (especially if they cull the number of Sydney clubs to 5, hich i think should be done)
