Anthony Milford could find way into Test squad

Well first I think we should only consider Mal's tenure as coach - it's not useful to compare different era's in this regard as the level of professionalism/standards set by the coach differ immensely.

But in seriousness can you imagine Thurston, Smith, Locky and leaders of that caliber breaking curfew, or allowing their teammates to?

It's also worth noting the senior team probably aren't treated very differently to the emerging boys. The great leaders QLD have had would set high standards and I doubt Mal would feel the need to set as stricter curfew. For the emerging boys however there's more value in setting something strict like that and who seeing who has enough respect in the Maroons system to follow it.

I know it wasn't a curfew being broken but didn't they all get on the stillnox a few years back during Mal's tenure. Pretty sure nobody was punished for that.

I don't think that'll be the case, and if it is, I won't agree with it. The fingers need to be pointed directly at the players that broke curfew. If we lose, I'll be filthy at Milford, Holmes etc, not Walters.

Have players played up before? I'm sure they have. Taylor falling out of bed was clearly bullshit as no flooring system can handle that kind of kinetic energy. Let's just hypothetically say that there was more to that story - how well did covering it up work? Did Taylor learn his lesson? Did he come back more determined and disciplined, ready to sacrifice in order to further his representative career?

Can't remember this one. What happened?

Agree 100% if u look at the club's history, players who have taken their "medicine" and learned have usually found great success from their learnt self-dicipline. I'm thinking of the likes of Chris johns, terry mattersan, hodges. It certainly didn't seem to diminish them anyway.

Dave Taylor hits head in bed mishap ahead of State of Origin game two

QUEENSLAND have suffered an injury scare ahead of State of Origin II in Sydney on Wednesday night, with giant back rower Dave Taylor falling out of bed.
The 122kg South Sydney forward turned up at the Maroons' first official training session at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday with his head wrapped in bandages.
The team's media manager Frank Barrett told reporters Taylor injured his head after falling out of his bed during the night.

Yes, because Dave Taylor was going to be better if he had been properly disciplined...

I understand and support a strong culture and discipline, but the punishment must fit the crime, and in my opinion, it definitely doesn't.
Players broke curfew, but as far as I can recall, none of them went on to behave like idiots or do anything truly deserving of a full year ban!

Well, Taylor's problems with discipline ultimately cost him his NRL career. If he'd been punished by the origin squad it's unlikely he'd have learnt his lesson anyway but it's always possible. Perhaps it would have been enough to make him straighten up and fly right and become a supreme NRL player instead of a sleazy ESL castaway.

WRT players not really acting up, most were well behaved but Val Holmes pushed to the front of a taxi queue and then got into an argument with a cabbie. Cops were called and he got a decent fine, $1400 or so as I recall.

Very unlikely re Taylor... I think the muscle compressed his brain into a pea.

The Holmes incident was the worst thing reported, which is pretty mild when you think how the public easily overreacts to anything NRL. It's not worth the punishment handed imo, much less most other players involved who were simply driven to and from the clubs they went to...

I'm not whitewashing the whole thing mind you, but I do disagree with the very heavy hand.

Remember that this happened immediately after they were drilled by the coaching staff on "making the right choices". Regardless of the magnitude, they did not make the right choices.

Stillnox issue and Taylor issue aren't related- Stillnox was 2009 and Taylor was 2012.

Taylor story didn't even involve alcohol.

I realise that but the point I was making is that it involved people already in the team and no punishments were handed down as far as I remember.

People were linking the two; Taylor was punished of sorts. He didn't break any rules though. Stillnox issue in 2009 was dealt with the following year.

I'm raising my hand in full support of the bans. No, if QLD lose it won't be the same people praising the bans who are complaining it was heavy-handed; it will be those complaining NOW that it's heavy-handed. I, and I am sure others who support the bans, will be pointing the finger at the banned players if QLD lose the series through a lack of cattle - not at Kevvie.

The first rule of parenting is consistency. The second rule is following through. Kevvie has done both and that should be applauded. The young blokes shouldn't have put him in the position where he had to make the call, it's as simple as that. I imagine the likes of Smith etc would also have been dirty at them. The team comes first, not the players. I know they're kids, but if they have to learn the hard way, so be it.

Back on topic - I think he's a shoo-in for at least the bench, as he should be. Can you imagine him coming on with fresh legs the last 15 minutes of each half??

Neither of these implies a heavy hand though. I am not against the policy, or disagree that a punishment or fine needed to be handed.

I am also not trying to pin blame on anyone, and I won't blame Kevvie for losing a series, even if it happens because of lack of troops.

I just disagree with the punishment, because imo, it is nowhere near fitting the crime.

What were the punishments? Any idea who the players were I can't remember anything being made public.

Milford let himself down,

Not for the first time, either.

Kids were warned. Kids didn't listen. Kids pay the price.

No rep footy until after season is over. STFU already, take the medicine.

When else has Milford let himself down?

Well there is very little chance Milford will play in the test so it's best to stop worrying about it.
