The fact that Kent said "Benji was appalled" doesn't categorically state that Benji told him but it does heavily imply it, and is obviously why he said it that way. Now he comes out and innocently claims "I never claimed Benji said it".
The problem here is that it lacks integrity. The proper response from Kent is to say "Yeah, I see how that came out, and it's not what I meant. I meant that I have heard from a third party that Benji was appalled. I am sorry for implying a direct quote from Benji."
Simple as that. A response that people can understand and respect.
Instead we get the holier than thou response that just incites claims of "Liar Liar" back and forth
