Ashes Discussion

You should always do what the opposition doesn't want.
That was, they didn't want to bat again.
So follow on and put the sword 🗡️ to them!

I would feel that bowling another 70 overs would be the thing they don't want, walking out to bat and getting out is easy, sure they might lose the game but that's not really something that physically is going to be that taxing on them and I think we are that far ahead in this game that it's not a case of whether or not England lose, it's by how much.

100% agree

what England would be wanting is to rest their bowlers before Melbourne

Well this is a terrible start by Australia and Harris has to be dropped, you can’t carry a number 11 as an opener.

England going to have no chance though with the ball doing this much already.

And Smith goes now to the slowest fast bowler in history, what the heck is the point of this batting performance? All it is doing is giving England some confidence.

The point is always to win the game you're playing not future games.
2 nil in a 5 match series.
Any reasonable person would know that is better than going for the last three wins to win the series... But you are entitled to your opinion.

Nah, it was bang on.
I tend to agree with you that enforcing the follow on is the better strategic option. But its not going to happen because they don't want to risk England batting well in the second innings and the bowlers not getting sufficient rest. Especially with two front line bowlers already out of the side. Also avoiding batting last on a fading pitch is a consideration. You clearly don't suffer from a lack of confidence.
