CRICKET Australia v India Summer

I wasn't talking about anyone specific, just the fact lots have become very very easily pleased.

It's relevant, you just seem to think great things happened once as an act of God, and we can't get back there. That's simply not true, CA got rid of the things that achieved those results and as a result we now value batsman that average low 30's.

Imagine if the Broncos just shrugged their shoulders and said nuh can't get back to those high standards of the 90's let's just be happy with 10th. Can't find another Alf or Lockyer let's stop the Academy.

Which part of it may never happen again or might take one or two generations suggests I think it was some act of god? Even for you, that's a massive stretch and not even a point I can recall ever arguing but you do like to do you.

But let's pretend T20 doesn't exist anymore as was the case when things were the way you keep referring to and elite talent goes back to the pathway you keep referring to (unrealistic but I'm humouring you), what is your suggestion NEXT YEAR when the current generation retires?

Who are you picking until said regime is put back in place AND producing players of the calibre it will produce? Or are you imagining that if this pathway gets magically put back in place tomorrow, next year we will have players ready? Or since we realistically won't have anyone of this calibre available, are you forfeiting all future series until such time as we have players with 7000 runs at an average of 50 available again?

It's like Ralph's heart breaking; you can pinpoint the exact moment you know you're out of your depth.

I look forward to halfway through Boxing Day you saying you think Australia's batting depth and talent may be in trouble and then copying me.

Ok, which is the exact moment my unbroken heart broke?

Honestly, I really don't know what you are trying to say here. I have been saying as long as anyone our batting is in trouble. I am also trying to offer suggestions within a situation of trouble. Unlike you because, as far as I can tell, your entire argument boils down to: 'It was better back in my day and until my day comes around again, I'm just going to say it was better in my day and think that somehow wins an argument about the present day.'

Also, I know you really, really struggle with this but here is how you do it, just copy and paste these words into your reply ok: 'I don't really know, I don't have an answer to that.'

See it is much easier to do that than use insults that don't even make sense.

Looks like they’ve dropped McSweeney. There’s no doubt he hasn’t worked as
an opener. That said I can’t cop that they’ll keep Khawaja and Marsh in the side and make the rookie the scapegoat. George Bailey is a gutless selector. Needs to go along with the other jokers that are selectors. The top 4 has been shit for 2 summers but we make the new bloke who was batting out of position the scapegoat

Looking forward to seeing Konstas, but poor McSweeney wasn’t really given a proper shake. Can’t wait for Marsh to score a nothing 30 on a flat MCG road and lock himself into a full ashes series next year 🔐

Green will just have to wait his turn as Mitch attempts to take his avg to sub-25 and cement his spot as the worst of all time

Yeah it sums up all things wrong with the current regime. This is supposed to be the Australian representative team, not Bailey's palies.

McSweeney should be given a shot at either 3 or 6 and Labs or Marsh dropped.

I am excited to see how Konstas goes though, it will be a baptism of fire for the poor kid.

It would at least be exciting if to see what would happen if they ran with:

1. Konstas
2. Labushagne
3. Smith
4. Inglis
5. Head
6. Webster
7. Carey
8. Cummins
9. Richardson
10. Starc
11. Boland

Spinners aren't being used this series anyway. And yes, I know this won't happen and no, I am not calling for it. I'm simply saying it would be fun to see what would happen with this side.

And also, if Inglis is a chance of coming in...perhaps Head is out with his quad injury and it is worse than they are letting on.

McSweeney's time will come, it's better to bring these blokes in around established test players instead of letting the blind lead the blind (or so to speak).

I'm excited to see what Konstas brings.

Funny thing is that he's averaging more than Uzzie... so he's failing as an opener, but the experienced opener that's out there with him has scored less runs.

Maybe it's the world class bowler that is averaging 11 and has ripped the top order apart to start every innings... nah it's gotta be the young guy that is a middle order bat in shield... selectors probably

They seem to be indicating that he wasn't attacking enough. But he was never going to fill that role.

But as national selection panel chair George Bailey indicated today in announcing Konstas's elevation, it was a need to find a batter able to take the game to India's quicks (with McSweeney's strike rate just 34 per 100 balls faced) that prompted the change.

"We remain confident Nathan has the ability and temperament to succeed at Test level in the future," Bailey said.

"It was a difficult decision to leave him out.

"It has clearly been a challenge at the top of the order for batters throughout the series and we want to provide the option of a different line-up for the next two matches.

"Sam gets a call up to the Test squad for the first time.

"His style of batting offers a point of difference and we look forward to watching his game develop further."

If it's just a style choice that's very harsh. McSweeney offered exactly what he has for South Australia.

I agree Australia haven't taken enough chances off Bumrah and just tried to survive but dropping a guy in his first three Tests for not attacking him is pretty hard.

If Konstas attacks and gets out with 25 off 12 do they then drop him for being reckless?

Is Konstas really going to take up the attack to Bumrah though? Is that even really his game. We certainly need to show more intent up the top of the order.

Smith to open with Usman
Inglis at 4

You'd just be repeating the McSweeney problem- Inglis has never got runs at 4.

All his runs for WA have come at 6 or below- 7 FC 100's.

Three- six times av 12
Four- once
Five-six times for one 50.
