CRICKET Australia v India Summer

What would you change ?
Looked like some pretty fine swing and pace by Rauf ?
one or two maybe, tops… vast majority of our dismissals once again looked like impatience or incompetence..

This insistence by Australia on going super hard early is so flawed imo.. in 50 over cricket there is so much value in setting a foundation from which to really up the scoring in the final 15-20 overs.. What’s the use in being 3-50 off 7 overs in the vast majority of matches? It just places all the pressure and responsibility on your middle order and bowlers to do the heavy lifting, and even just to ensure you bat out the 50 overs..

So many of our big scores in ODI cricket over the decades were built on positive but proper batting early on, keeping wickets in hand and scoring at 8-10 runs an over in the final 15-20 overs..

But hey, these guys know best.. I guess getting rolled for 160 on a pancake in Adelaide is all worth it for that one-in-a-blue moon time it all works out and we score 400

Australia squad for first Test

Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc

Marnus will be interesting this series... I think he's got an issue with express pace.

Rauf got him twice in the ODI's... Wood was getting him in the last Ashes... if we lose early wickets he'll be dealing with a fresh Bumrah.

It seems to be an issue with Aus batsmen in general though and I think it's because there just haven't been many guys bowling 145+ since the days of Brett Lee and Akhtar when every team was trying to find their own super quick guy.

Batsmen ended up being pretty comfortable with the express pace so teams went back to line and length with 140's being the "quick" guys.... now a guy bowling 145 is a big change up and I dont think they can handle it as easy anymore.

Might need to turn the speed up on the bowling machine and get used to that pace again.

Aussie batters have issues with everything that isn’t fun barrel straight

Recency bias ?
Ronnie says they have won 17 of 19 games recently .

I think it’s safe to say Konstas and Davies are both a fair while off being remotely discussable. Give them 2 more years and they’ll both be primed I reckon.

India got Konstas out with full balls previously .
2nd innings fired out 3 top order players with full swinging deliveries .
Then decided short of a length was the go . Konstas handled that with ease .
Getting his head too far across to straight balls will need work . Head / eyes are outside off to a ball on middle and leg .

JFM out again early. I think we have to accept that he's a windies-esque t20 franchise slogger and nothing more.

Jake Fraser-Mcgurk is a bit out of his depth at international level. He’s got talent but he’s not sure how to play his game yet.

Our depth is probably at all time lows.

I think we'll appreciate now how good Warner was for us, he had the ability to adapt to the game, he was always aggressive but he had the ability to find that happy medium, instead of trying to flog everything for 6. He would be aggressive in other ways, like his running between the wickets.

Nathan has secured it. Well deserved. Will be interesting to see if he can handle opener.
He will handle it but they’ve got to expect low scores too. He’s still developing his game and isn’t finished article. He should have the summer now as an opener.

Warner might be one of the lest appreciated Australian cricketers of all time. A complete banker but an absolutely gun cricketer in all forms.

Funny how we can’t adapt. Last game approach didn’t work, let’s try it again.
That’s been the Australian way for a long time. I can’t think of a time we’ve adapted at all tbh. Matty Hayden sweeping a lot in India and maybe D Martyn playing style in Sri Lanka all those years ago

The prosecution rests..
